I've had a grey-market Minolta (well, it was purchased in HK, so it was "in-market" there) for 23 years, and it is still as good as the day I bought it. Same goes for all the stereo gear I purchased overseas.
I wouldn't worry too much about the perceived quality. It's just as good as a US or any other market model, the only difference being the warranty (and after a couple years, who cares, anyway?), a minor feature or two, and included materials.
Obviously, one want to feel comfortable about the purchase, but in general shouldn't worry about first-line products frame a major, well-known manufacturer.
