Firstly, apologies if you can't unsee this after I've pointed it out.

If you look at the new App store icon it's as if three sticks have been laid on top of each other interlocking. I really like this new icon design.

Now, look at the 12 o'clock position where the stick on the left casts a shadow on the stick on the right. Can you see the bulge on the left stick where it casts the shadow? This is a sub-pixel alignment problem due to the shadow being incorrectly positioned in the original artwork. The mistake is less obvious when the icon is resized but it's still there.

I appreciate not everybody will be able to see this without zooming in. So here's an @3x enlarged screen grab...

"Are you getting it yet?"

Here's a red line drawn along the bulge.

I reported this as radar bug report 34033524 and it was closed as "Engineering has determined that this issue behaves as intended" ...which I find disappointing but not surprising.

And here's the original once again:

I only have an iPhone 6s, which these screenshots of the problem were grabbed from. edit: it's also on my iPod touch 6th generation.

On this iPad screenshot of iOS 11 beta 6 the problem is not there: https://9to5mac.files.wordpress.com/2017/08/img_094d49493179-1.jpeg

Which makes me think the problem may only be at certain (@2x?) icon sizes?

iPhone Plus, iPad and Apple TV devices seem unaffected.

No way I’m upgrading now
[doublepost=1504138242][/doublepost]Even worse...there’s a pixel off on the Safari icon. I’m so sorry if you can’t unsee this. This beta is crap.

Reported.

Thanks! They liked that eye for detail when I worked at Apple.
Hey everybody I found Scott Forstall! Hi Scott!

In all seriousness though, this kind of crap wouldn't have flown back in the day. Even in a beta. I was surprised I didn't notice it, but then I saw that you mentioned the iPad didn't have this issue. I've been running the beta on my 10.5" iPad Pro.

Why are 2 of the 3 stick's sides pixelated and the third isn't???

This shall not be released to the public. It's horrible and must be fixed immediately. Simply embarrassing. Jony Ive, you're fired.

34180829 filed tonight so they fix this blunder.

And yes, I'm serious.

From an engineering, programming, or usability standpoint, are you saying the icon doesn't work when you tap it ? See ? It works "as expected".

I once reported the Dock in OSX was dismissing clicks sometimes when clicking fast on different folders/stacks, Apple engineering says it was working as intended. A few updates later the issue got fixed.

Similarly, in iOS, I reported iOS dismissing taps during the unlock animation (when icons fly around), and so you had to wait until animation was over to tap an icon. Apple engineering had determined it was working as expected. Now in iOS11 they fixed the issue, taps are allowed during unlock icon animation.

Lets just say my respect for Apple engineering has decreased somewhat.
