Hey guys,
was wondering how watching live games from this app on the ipad. You can watch any game any time live or not? Is it working? I tried looking at the reviews but they were posted before opening night so there no help!

So how is the app?!
Thanks

This app is very, very cool, but with a few issues that I'd like to see them fix. I've had the MLB At Bat app on my iPhone the last 2 years, and it started out very cool and just kept getting even better.

The iPad app visually is stunning, but there are a few features that are available in the iPhone versions that AREN'T in the iPad version for some reason, most notably, the ability to watch video highlights of a particular game AFTER the game is over. Unless I'm missing something, all you can do is view the box score after the game ends. I just tested it on the iPhone version and pulled up a game from yesterday, and all the video highlights are available.

However, this is a small quibble. It's amazing how much information is in this app. You get updated lineups for each team, so if for example, a team's cleanup hitter is leading off an inning, the lineup is presented from 4 to 9, followed by 1 to 3. You can watch video highlights in a popup screen while still watching the current game situation on the bulk of the screen. Clicking on any player in either the lineup or the batter vs pitcher window on the bottom of the screen makes a baseball card popup for that player. All games from that day are in a window at the top of the screen, so it's easy to see the situation for any other game. And of course, it has audio (both teams) for every game for free.

For video, you only get one free game a day (assuming it's not in your area) - to watch any of the others, you have to have an MLB.tv subscription.

All in all, I highly recommend this app. It's been one of the best apps on the iPhone for years and is ever better now.

You can watch any game live subject to blackout if you have an mlb.tv subscription. If you don't then they offer one free game a day to everyone (also subject to blackout). You do get game day audio though for any game and video highlights. It's a pretty good application though, it shows a lot of info.

rldunn: When you are looking at the box score of a game that was completed swipe to the left for game highlights.

I remember last year there was an option to watch any game for $1 without an mlb.tv subscription.. does that hold true this year? (ipad or iphone app)

I do not have my iPad yet (ordered the 3G). I absolutely LOVE this app on my iPhone. They do not have the option this year to buy game video feeds for $1, at least not yet.

I have been super excited about the iPad version since I watched the Keynote in January. However, the reviews I've seen from people using this app is that it is HORRIBLE on the iPad. There is a huge amount of lag. You can be watching the game-day pitch-by-pitch and listening to the audio feed. However, you'll be watching the pitch by pitch for the previous batter. It is not real-time!!!

Until MLB gets their heads out of their asses, I won't be dropping ANOTHER $15 for an app that should have been a Universal Build. The iPhone version has more features than the iPad version too!! Can you believe that?? I'm waiting for an update and the reviews of that update before I dive in.

I do not have this app yet. Still waiting for the 3g version of the iPad to come out. As far as the MLB app goes. It has been my most used daily app for the past 2 years. If the iPhone version is any indication, than it's a no-brainer. Pick it up, and enjoy the beautiful game.

The lag happened to me yesterday, but in the opposite direction. The audio was a batter behind the pitch by pitch. But, that didn't make the app horrible for me, and I'm sure they'll fix it, as they fixed the audio when they introduced it in last year's version.

I'm on the fence about the universal version, especially since i already bought the iPhone version for this year before I got the iPad. But, for apps like this that add new functionality and don't just make a bigger iPhone app, i'm more willing to accept it.

I find it ridiculous that MLB and it's TV broadcast partners still find it necessary to blackout local games on devices like the iPad. Just a way for Comcast (here in Philly) to monopolize our ability to watch the Phillies unless you pay for their services.

Don't get me wrong, if they fix the issues, I'll likely be dropping another $15. But for now, until they make the iPad specific app actually function better or as well as the iPhone version, I'm holding onto my cash. Hopefully they don't wait until the All-Star break to add new features, like they did with the video feed last year.

I have to say that I was disappointed in this year's app in comparison to last years app, which cost $5 less. Nonetheless, I would still recommend the iPhone app to ANY baseball fan.

I know exactly how you feel. I'm a Cubs fan and probably more than 50% of all Cubs games are broadcast nation-wide on WGN. Blackouts SUCK! At least we get the audio feed for all games....

The MLB app is horrible right now for the reason that it does not update. At all. I have it on now for the Yankees and it was at least a batter behind if it updated at all.

If they fix that it'll be a very decent app.

There is a huge bug that makes it impossible to watch Montreal Expos games. I'd avoid any MLB apps until this glitch is fixed.

LOL nice,

I also have the delay issues with audio, usually a batter behind.

Also when looking at post game box scores, the scrolling of the "newspaper" is very skippy for me.

Another thing is that I thought in the keynote they did the pitch tracking, that doesn't seem to be working on the iPad (works on the flash based browser version though)

Also I would LOVE to see some of the same interface stuff they have working on the web version like weather/radar and stuff, but a hit path tracker would be nice too (then I could finally cancel digital cable)

I have the App along with an MLB.tv subscription. The video quality of live games is good, but not great. The app was a no brainer since I have the subscription but I really think they should include the app with the TV subscription. You have to drop $15 for each the iPad and iPhone app even with the $120 Premium subscription.

That is my biggest frustration with it.

Imagine being a White Sox fan where the majority of the games are on Comcast SportsNet and it isn't carried by everyone and causes blackouts when they're simulcast.

A new update was just released. The end of game summary/highlights pages are now much smoother.

Just update. HUGE improvement with the summary and highlights pages, no lag or choppiness at all.

Hopefully the live play by play is fixed too.

The audio, screen not syncing together aren't problems for me. If I listen to a game, I see no reason to look at the iPad screen. Maybe that's just me.

The one thing I've always wanted is to have all games in HD. I have the MLB.tv sub and obviously HD on a device like the iPad is always better.

Still a must app. for me.

Question for you: if you've tried it, how does does it look watching on a TV? I'm probably going to cancel my cable in the near future and just get the few shows I watch through iTunes and also MLB.tv.

MLB.tv? I've never seen that on a tv, just iPad, iPod and PC. And it might have been confusing what I wrote but all the games are not yet in HD. The only fall back. So some will be SD.

I'm not sure I completely understood your question.

Is MLB still offering free live video of one game each day like last year or is that gone? Thanks.
