Through their MMS app on their phone. That's because it is NOT being received via Email, only being SENT via Email (which of course, every iPhone has). It should be RECEIVED like any other MMS message. So, I guess he really IS a smart guy after all.

That solves the problem of the person being able to send one back to an iphone huh?

Everyone needs to admit the iphones lack of a simple MMS package is a failure of its design.

The actual name is "MMS". This is a modmyifone package that has been submitted to the installer repository. For now, its only available if you have added the modmyifone repository as a trusted source.

Thanks for the info!

Though, by the looks of it, a lot of people are having problems with it (http://www.modmyifone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20032).

So, I'll think I'll wait until things "clear up" a bit.

No, it doesn't. That is a problem - you are correct on that point. I was just commenting on your original post:
Ok smart guy, how does someone with a non email capable phone handle it then?

Hopefully, this is something that will be dealt with soon. I don't think it so much an issue of it's "design" as it is an issue of AT&T offering unlimited data in it's package with the iPhone and not wanting to give away anything else. From the rumors I heard, AT&T did not want to include MMS initially. But things can change I guess (hopefully).

Thats a really dumb theory... AT&T wouldn't necessarily have to include it for free at all. They could of had a set allotment of MMS or a SMS/MMS combination and charged some fee for extra like $10/500 or something. This could easily be turned into more revenue for them. the SMS data is included in a voicemail data packet, but I assume MMS data is TCP/IP just like the net, so I don't see why AT&T would care at all whether someone uses standard MMS or this stupid email attachment workaround???

Re: AT&T The last setting I tried was:

MMSC: mmsc.cingular.com
Proxy: 066.209.011.032

I've yet to get this to work and don't understand how others are with AT&T.

First, why "cingular"? 2nd, everyone talks about ports. I see no area to enter a port. Can anyone tell me how to set this up? Thanks.

I figure if the iPhone is capable of sending MMS, then it should. Who cares whether or not email is better? My old Moto emailed and MMS'd, so darn it, so should my iPhone. Let the people decide how they want to send pics, get charged, etc.

This is a minor annoyance I don't like about iPhone - successfully sending & receiving MMS messages - even my cheap Motorola T-Mobo phone does this!
While sending and receiving through email is an option and works quite well, it's not always feasible to do so.
Let's hope Apple implements this in a future software update.
Regardless of this, I'm still loving my iPhone :)

Example:
Open Mail App.
Send Pic to address 3135551212@mms.att.net

Voila! They just received an MMS from your iPhone.

And most other phones can email out..... so receiving a pic on your iPhone isn't a big deal either.

This works because I've tried it, BUT doesn't work as you'd think.

I get a regular text message on iPhone telling me to go to a URL, enter a message ID and a password...which is given to you in the regular SMS message.
So you fire up Safari, go to that website, log in with the message ID and password they sent you, and you can view your MMS message.

It's a pain, but it does work.

To get back on topic, this is the info I was hoping to find here. I googled the info, and couldnt find anything. Anyone else have any suggestions on settings?

Is it possible the determinator for who gets it working vs. who can't - has something to do with location or the AT&T hub/area they are in? IDK why else some are successful on a certain setting while another using the same, is not.

I personally have no use for this, it's been more of a "I want to conquer this" type thing with me but I think now I'll give up. :)

OK smart guy, who said it did?

Well, change hurts. I am all for getting rid of obsolete technology.

Right. I don't see the big point in this. I can't imagine in my life a picture being so important that it needs to be instantly plastered on my recipients screen - that it can't wait till they check mail, etc. IDK.

I can't get this to work for me at all. Has anyone here? I'm bagging it till I hear different.

EDIT: IT WORKED! I sent an MMS from my AT&T iPhone to a T-mobile user. :)

Obsolete by Apples standards according to your view:

Exchange Email Support
Copy And Paste
Text to mutiple receipants
Flash support on web pages
Stereo Bluetooth headset support
Bluetooth Sync
User replaceable battery

Sure sounds more regressive than progressive.

By the way, the Treo 700W has all those features.

Why doesn't the app release with the default AT&T settings, or at least have the option to load them...what are they?

Using the cingular settings someone mentioned above gets me: Send Failed! Could not connect!

Ya but the 700W:
-runs windows mobile
-lower resolution screen
-no touch screen keyboard
-does not come with 8GB of memory
-only 4.7 hours talk time... then what happens when you start using 3G?
-about twice the thickness... "is that a treo in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?"
-heavier
-and the desktop requirements are Windows...that alone would not make it worth it too many people.

Those are all extremely important factors to me and many others.... so in our case buying 700W would not be sufficient...especially since rate plans for it tend to be more with other carriers besides AT&T

Now to you, the items you listed may be more important. They are different phones with different aspects... some are more important to other people. Maybe a treo 700W will suite you better.

Actually during the carneval season in Cologne MMS come in quite handy to check out, where other people are. And no, nobody's close to an eMail account then :D
