well technically i'm just added to a family account. thanks for pointing that out though, as unnecessary as it was.
it renewed for a small price, whilst i'm waiting/hoping for updates.

And instead of multiple posts, try hitting the edit button on your original post.

You don't want to be on a stranger's family plan. The master of the account is like the administrator. He could deactivate your account at any time.

I know that, hence why I said before it's only short-term. I know exactly what the account is/and what it means for me.
£20~ for a month or so to know my personal account wont deactivate, regardless of risk = priceless :)

And have access to any file you place there.

Not fussed - I have nothing of exceptional value (file based/iDisk) anyway.

And haven't you been enjoying the use of it while others who did not pay could not? I mean really, so they make it free? That is like saying you would be annoyed if the next time you got gas the price was cheaper than the first time, you still got to use the gas you paid for.

Yes but I just renewed my membership for another 12 months :D So I would expect a refund if it became free!

Me too, I just paid it on Friday, I would expect either a refund or some sort of compensation and I am sure Apple will do just that, no doubts in my mind at all.

No not at all. I never said I was annoyed or pissed off or nor did I say I would be if it became free. I said to the OP that there is NO REASON to be annoyed, you pay because you want the service now, otherwise wait to see what happens and not have access to the services while you wait.

I paid because I want the services now; if they become free, I will kindly wait and see what Apple does for its current subscribers. But I am not now, wasn't when I paid on Friday nor will be annoyed in the future no matter what. I want and use the services at the going rate, by choice, others who do not want to pay and hope for it to be free cannot use what I am enjoying.

just cancelled

I am sure there is a bunch of us that signed up for the trial 2 months ago hoping that it will become a free service soon. Alas no go and so I cancelled. Not a big loss since other free services are available. I mean who pays for email in the last decade? I suppose one concern is iAds start popping up in your MobileMe emails.

My point is that this $99 a year is counter to the way Apple operates. iTunes and app store are said to be there to promote hardware sales. We all know that has been working. MobileMe, on the other hand, is still "just a hobby."

I really hope they give people who pay for MobileMe a refund if they make it free. I like it so much better than all the other options. MobileMe keeps my PC, OSX, iPhone, and iPad all in sync with files, emails, calendar, and other things. I love it. I tried using Google, and dropbox but it never runs as smooth as MobileMe does for me.

Even iDisk runs fast/smooth for you?

I remember when it was free. Back in the days when it was known as "iTools"

those were the good old days... sadly file sharing didn't work well, or on windows, or, well, you get the picture. I have been paying for .Mac for as long as I've owned a laptop, and now I can finally see the light at the end of the product tunnel. There's a huge vacuum in the market that Mobileme fills; a dedicated, add free, 'just working' cloud service. Cut the price in half, throw in some cloud media linking, and somehow combine iWork into the whole deal. Shoot, with what Lion looks like, it'll be a game changer. It's like google, but made for your iProducts, and guaranteed to work flawlessly. Should it be free? No. It is worth every penny, the time I save not dealing with sync issues, and the creative environment it promotes actually makes me money. Sounds like a deal to me.
