So is it safe to jailbreak if I'm using an iPhone 5 or should I wait as well?

Yes, it is safe to jailbreak now on your iPhone 5. You just won't be able to apply many tweaks now as most of them have not been update for ios7, along with mobile substrate. I run an iPhone 5 and have a couple of tweaks that are working now.

Once the updates come thru, you can update thru Cydia.

and this is only for the developers who choose to. a lot of them have quit (so no infinidock/zephyr/etc). some say it will take a LOT of time (like lockinfo). some aren't even using ios7 because they hate it so theres no way for them to test/update.

Meh i'll believe that when I see it. If they don't update, someone else will come along and create some sort of alternative.

What else do you need to see to believe?Check their twitter accounts. Coming straight from the developers mouths.

Good luck with that. Seems to be dependable for most tweaks and can't be developed half-a**. Suarik already responded once to a released fix saying it would do more harm then good.

Because I expect the knee-jerk reactions to fade and more devs to come to their senses such as this one.

Mobile Substrate...where are you?

Correct, NONE of the devs have left, meanwhile loads of tweaks do work or have already beta updates such as bitesms.

The argument stevelam is using is not valid.

There is always a few who cry wolf...

I thought Bitesms beta wasn't out till the 28th have i missed something?

Pffff i really hope mobile substrate will be released tommorow - christmas over.
I really is what drives the tweak world.

I haven't found very many tweaks that work on a 5S sans Mobile Substrate.

Correct, but on all others many already work or have been updated, on redmondpie the list is up to 133 tweaks of which 1/2 work or at least have partial functionality.

That is without an updated MS.

Beware that Apple could launch 7.05 anytime to close the exploits.

So, who is putting the update to that together? Is it a heavy duty programming job? Is it something we might expect "any day now"? Will it take weeks?

To answer your original question, Saurik writes MobileSubstrate pretty much alone. How much of a job it is to update varies from release to release. My guess is that with all the changes in iOS 7 it will take some time for him to fix everything that's changed.

We also have to remember that there are other support libraries (Icon Support, etc.) that need to be updated after MS is done and before many other tweaks can be fixed. My guess is we're looking at several weeks for most tweaks. And who knows how motivated phoenixdev (who makes some of the tweaks I like best) will be? He's pretty understandably upset...

Unless you have some sort of background in programming I suggest you refrain from giving people a timeframe and raising their hopes/putting them down.

Edit: pod2g seems to think saurik will have the update out "quick". Cydia got updated pretty fast so we'll see about MS.

I just hope MS gets updated ASAP. I'm itching to get the 5s but won't until TetherMe is confirmed to work on 64-bit devices.

I wonder if these "fixes" are the Cydia and other update we already received? The twitter post was dated 12/23.
