This phone seems lame to me, dosn't look like it has wi-fi, a real browser, the ui isn't touchscreen and dosn't look anywhere are nice as the iPhone.

but your argument is that the Gigabyte makes the iPhone look "lame". It simply does not

Well, it was not trivial to accept that it is not 3G, to begin with.

But in the end, even if it were the most advanced phone in every respect, it would in any case be lame simply for the fact of not being available in unlocked form.

We must not forget, however, that that phone is definitely NOT going to cost $499 with a TWO-year-contract...

Ps.: but don't get me wrong...I'm getting an iPhone...

That was what Apple/AT&T said it would cost. There is no unlocked version -- it can only be bought with a new two-year agreement.

You keep changing your argument; now you're saying that the iPhone is lame because it isn't 3G and it isn't unlocked...? What happened to the iPhone being lame in comparison to the Gigabyte?

You think the iPhone is lame; I get it. I don't think the iPhone is lame, I think it has flaws that will be ironed out in time (this is, afterall, Apple's first attempt at a phone). If you don't want one, don't get one.

I don't think I will get a first gen iPhone, particularly without 3G, and due to its price, but I really don't think you could ever call this device lame.

in terms of specs and pricing, the iphone is somewhat lame. but that phone you posted will hardly be an iphone killer.

Right, that IS what they said when it was announced. That said, there's plenty of chatter out there that AT&T will offer significant discounts.

Looks OK. Not as slick as an iPhone though.

That is ONE HELL of a stylus though!

Gigabyte-GSmart-t600-PDA-phone-3.jpg

wow, why does anybody need that big a stylus? is that a stylus at all?

Only bad thing about this is the software. Let's hope Nokia catches up soon:

iPhone killer
Looks cool! I wish the US had free to air TV:mad:
Ummm.... no:

2.6 inch screen vs. 3.5 inch screen
96 MB RAM vs 4 to 8 GB flash memory
18.5 mm thick vs 11.6 mm

And personally, I think it's quite clunky looking -- more like iPod 1G rather than iPhone 1G.
It also plays real TV, will cost significantly less, and will be available for more carriers:rolleyes:

If you'd read the thread, you'd know that the 'stylus' is also the TV antenna.

MicroSD is still lame. What does it max out at right now? 2gb?

A couple of brands have announced 4GB microSDHC cards, but I'm not sure this version of the phone will support them.

8VSB does not support mobile reception, so I guess you are out of luck for free digital TV on a phone in the US. Free mobility maybe with A-VSB, but probably not in HD.

Err - who needs that when you have WiFi anyway?

Please show me where the free "quality" TV on the internet is. And how to get WiFi on an intercity train when the train is not a hotspot. And free again.

I'm still using a phone from 2000. First it was waiting for 3G+quadband, then for A2DP, now for DVB-T+DVB-H+T-DMB+DAB on a non-M$ phone.
So, you're saying that once a phone has all those things, you won't be waiting for and drooling for the next greatest-thing that's on the horizon? ;)

Maybe I'll go for a successor of the N77 if they add the fourth band, and there is a reasonable price plan for DVB-H with some good channels.

Well, I could get with EDGE/UMTS:

- 24 channels for $10 per month
- 29 channels for $13 per month

Where is something like the LG CU500 for Europe?

But why do you think "iPhone now seems lame"? I just can't understand where you're coming from with this...

OK the iPhone doesn't have the capability of on-the-move TV, but you can access YouTube, you can carry your movies and TV shows, etc., you have access to a lot of media... you're argument is really wearing thin.

- I don't care about YouTube, and I definitely don't want to pay for traffic.
- Won't buy from iTunes
- Too much work to rip and convert my own stuff (and I don't have much), and I don't care about watching the best stuff on a tiny screen
- Just want to zap and catch stuff I wouldn't otherwise see, or watch news and music channels

I got it. N95. Maybe the iPhone screen would be a bit better, or maybe it gets all greasy. Phone is mainly a communicator, so I prefer 3.5G. Unlocked. Need Missing Sync Symbian to come out.

So the iPhone isn't for you. Totally fair, and no problem. It obviously isn't going to be for everyone. Hell, it's not for me either.

But seriously, can't you see that there have been significant developments made with the iPhone. It may not be what you want in a phone, and I can see that the Gigabyte also has an impressive range of TV technology built-in, but in no way does it make the iPhone look lame.

I'm not saying the software is not the best. It's just that I think a phone should have as much comm tech as possible, so quadband/EDGE seems too plain.

EDGE would be enough for watching pay TV (and you might not get UMTS coverage, specially with some carriers), but I don't know if it's better when you can get it over UMTS.

I also don't know if DVB-H will be better than EDGE/UMTS TV.
