I still can't believe that MobileMe doesn't offer collaborative calendars....
They just lost $500+ from our workgroup.

Hope this helps someone else :)

Keep in mind that MobileMe was never meant to be a collaborative tool. It was meant to be a personal service, syncing one account to many devices.

While it unfortunately didn't serve your needs, it's really not a shortcoming with the service, since the service was never meant to be used in that manner.

MobileMe Family Pack Question

Hello gang,

My wife and I both have MobileMe accounts, but my wife doesn't use hers that much. Instead of renewing both of our accounts to the full version, can I just buy a Family Pack and use the 20GB serial # for my renewal, and renew her with one of the sub-account serials, knocking her account down to 5GB? Or, would I have to create a whole new account for her. Thanks so much for your help on this...

I picked up a Family Pack on ebay for $91 shipped. Less than a solo and you can keep your wife's and your me.com accounts. Just change the allocation of space in MobileMe

I got my family MobileMe subscription a few days ago from this eBay seller. It was £50, which was around $90 AUD, so around $85 USD. He will send the code electronically shortly after payment.

Common Calendar and iPhone/iCal/Google Calendar

Thought you might be interested to know that by following Spacepower7's solution, my calendars (iCal/iPhone/Google) all began to line up. Mobile Me is keeping my contacts in sync, but my Google calendar is actually in sync with the rest of my devices.
Thank you Spacepower.

Kind of crazy that we have to use Google to get our Apple iPhones calendars to sync up.

With the new Nexus, Apple's Mobile Me team better get the bugs worked out of Mobile Me.

Did this end up being legit? Someone sending me a code makes me think they have a keygen somewhere. I'd be interested to know how it went. I'm up for renewal and Amazon has a Family Pack for $103 shipped.
Thanks!

Not saying the sync of Mobile Me is not working. That works fairly well and quickly. It is all the other things that do not work well.

Just tonight, uploading pictures, I cannot tell you how many times I had restart it becasue Mobile Me restarted itself or refreshed.

I am also looking for a solution to have one shared family calendar which is editable by all family members and I came about this: http://www.apple.com/mobileme/news/2009/06/view-calendars-published-to-mobileme-on-iphone.html
Anybody tried to create an extra account named "Family" and then add it to all users?
(I only have a single account and therefor cannot try this on my own).

PS. Now when I think about it i'm not sure iCal supports multiple accounts. iPhone does though. DS.

Yeah I tried this but couldn't get it to work. You can add multiple accounts to the iphone, but it won't sync more than one.

For example, I set up my own me.com account and wanted to sync just mail and contacts, then had another account called 'Family' to sync just calendars. However the iphone doesn't allow both accounts to sync. Very frustrating!

In the end I've gone down the route of using Google Calendars.

I couldn't resist to try it myself so I upgraded my MM account to a family account and started to configure but came up with basically the same as you. For some inscrutable reason Apple doesn't allow one to sync more than one MM calendar on the iPhone. You can sync multiple mail account without any problems. In fact this works really well, but when it comes to calendars it's a no no. Strange...
I can't understand why this isn't possible. You can have one MM, Google Calendar, Exchange etc. All of them at the same time. And you can also have multiple Exchange calendars, so why only one MM?

I think it's sad but maybe I have to go with an Google calendar for our family appointments. How does that feel Steve? ;)

pure mac + mobileme; still not up to mac standards

Just got 2 3GS iPhones. Own a newer Mac OS X (meets MM minimum requirements).

MM set up marvelously on one phone. How do I add other phone to same account? I tried "adding" same account with same PW, but cloud is not raining properly on both iphones. One is suffering a "man made drought," just like my central CA location, and is not receiving iCal or Contacts. Sales dude said 2 phones can share and update with automatic push with family pack. That's not happening. Suggestions? I'm used to Mac stuff working intuitively, but this is a first (not easy to figure out on my own).

I believe you have to have a different MM account set up to share calendars and to sync contacts and mail.Set up your primary MM account that has the email you normally use and it will sync the contacts, mail, and calendar. Do this with a different MM account for the other iphone (again their main email MM account).

You then set up a "shared calendar" that both iphones have set up. You can then see both calendars, but I believe the contacts and email will not sync. You basically will have two MM accounts on your iphone, your personal MM and the shared MM.

I am going from memory on this, but I am fairly certain that is how it works.

Regarding my earlier post #39:

Two words: user error! When entering calendar events from my iPhone, I had two choices of calendars that looked identical, but was unaware of the fact I had TWO choices! One was "local" to the iPhone only and is simply labeled "all calendars", and the other has a mobile me suffix listed over "all calendars." So when I enter a calendar event I have to be sure it's under the mobile me list. Simple! I knew my mac wouldn't let me down. All I had to do was use that cool finger swipe scroll thingimabob, and I would've done it right to begin with...

I hereby rescind my anti-mac statements, and replace them with "seamless," "easy," & "meets or exceeds mac standard for intuitiveness!"

The only downer is that I spent an extra $50 on the family pack unnecessarily, but I can use that for secret planning like Mother's Day and the wife's birthday...

With the Family Pack - You get a master account and 4 family members sub-accounts.

I use the Master account to do the sharing. So Calendars, Contacts, Bookmarks and what have you.

I use the individual family member accounts for Email only. So each user gets a unique email address.

On Macs, enter the master account into the Mobile Me setting in System Preferences. But use the individual account for email settings.

On iOS devices. Enter BOTH accounts. But only have the sync switches on for the master account.

(edit) - Just discovered this setup means no push email. GRRR!
