Not just the ipad, the whole ecosystem of apple. I will soon have two imacs an iphone, my beloved pbook g4 12" and the ipad. Guess what all these need, MAJOR syncing, otherwise I, and every user will go BONKERS!!!!
So apple devs, you can make it happen, you will be (again) the first too.
First iron out the glitches for mobileme.
All over the air syncing for every device. No plug ins. I want to sync my iphone notes not when I plug in, or with some half baked system of making notes into mail in mobile me, real syncing. Real all over the air syncing will take time, but, at least gradually do some minor issues as the notes.
Open up and enable mobileme syncing for other apps too. We can't afford to sync over their servers, it's just not secure enough, and doesn't cut it.
20 gbs is a joke, an upgrade is required boys (and gals). Those server farms are not just for more content from those bookstores...
Security, let me not even go into this, cause it's a bag of hurt, and since this is post is directed to the developers I don't want to scare people away from mobileme, or back stab a generally good effort. So, I am not going into it, make it happen, cause boy oh boy is it not secure as it is in terms of syncing (not in terms of how files are kept in your servers, I have heard good things about this.).
One of the biggest omissions, idisk should automatically sync local folders with idisk and then to other local folders on other macs. As is you either have to have a buch of shortcuts to idisk everywhere, or tranfer everything to idisk, or, as I am doing use a third party app like chronosync and sync folders to idisk by scheduling. We are moving to the cloud so nothing like this cuts it anymore. I want my selected folders synced to the cloud and then locally on every mac I have. I can't be a file hound and go, oh did I save this when working on the lappie, or on the imac, or maybe I did a couple of changes on the ipad, now where and which file is this...
Specifically for the ipad, you know that even the highest capacity at 64gbs is a joke nowadays. It's not your fault, flash hasn't evolved quickly enough, and it won't catch up quickly either, even in a years time 128gbs max will be a joke for movies, music, books, apps, podcasts and files. And let me not go into the 16gb model...but all of this can be made to work with the tremendous power of the cloud, it's the only way it can work, few files will be stored locally. So merely an idisk app is not enough, it's helpful as is, but inadequate. I will not do your work for you, but besides idisk there has to be a system that interfaces well with the ipad over the cloud and feeds it with files per application. An ilibrary? That's one idea isn't it?
Make it happen guys, I know a lot of you are working hard on mobileme, but the competition is close behind, so make it happen and take it to the next level. Mobileme must be just that, mobility for everyone, syncing of files, notes, calendars, mail, settings. Make it easy for someone to grab their ipad or iphone or macbook and be able to be ready to go, synced.
Thanks!
