Not just the ipad, the whole ecosystem of apple. I will soon have two imacs an iphone, my beloved pbook g4 12" and the ipad. Guess what all these need, MAJOR syncing, otherwise I, and every user will go BONKERS!!!!

So apple devs, you can make it happen, you will be (again) the first too.

First iron out the glitches for mobileme.

All over the air syncing for every device. No plug ins. I want to sync my iphone notes not when I plug in, or with some half baked system of making notes into mail in mobile me, real syncing. Real all over the air syncing will take time, but, at least gradually do some minor issues as the notes.

Open up and enable mobileme syncing for other apps too. We can't afford to sync over their servers, it's just not secure enough, and doesn't cut it.

20 gbs is a joke, an upgrade is required boys (and gals). Those server farms are not just for more content from those bookstores...

Security, let me not even go into this, cause it's a bag of hurt, and since this is post is directed to the developers I don't want to scare people away from mobileme, or back stab a generally good effort. So, I am not going into it, make it happen, cause boy oh boy is it not secure as it is in terms of syncing (not in terms of how files are kept in your servers, I have heard good things about this.).

One of the biggest omissions, idisk should automatically sync local folders with idisk and then to other local folders on other macs. As is you either have to have a buch of shortcuts to idisk everywhere, or tranfer everything to idisk, or, as I am doing use a third party app like chronosync and sync folders to idisk by scheduling. We are moving to the cloud so nothing like this cuts it anymore. I want my selected folders synced to the cloud and then locally on every mac I have. I can't be a file hound and go, oh did I save this when working on the lappie, or on the imac, or maybe I did a couple of changes on the ipad, now where and which file is this...

Specifically for the ipad, you know that even the highest capacity at 64gbs is a joke nowadays. It's not your fault, flash hasn't evolved quickly enough, and it won't catch up quickly either, even in a years time 128gbs max will be a joke for movies, music, books, apps, podcasts and files. And let me not go into the 16gb model...but all of this can be made to work with the tremendous power of the cloud, it's the only way it can work, few files will be stored locally. So merely an idisk app is not enough, it's helpful as is, but inadequate. I will not do your work for you, but besides idisk there has to be a system that interfaces well with the ipad over the cloud and feeds it with files per application. An ilibrary? That's one idea isn't it?

Make it happen guys, I know a lot of you are working hard on mobileme, but the competition is close behind, so make it happen and take it to the next level. Mobileme must be just that, mobility for everyone, syncing of files, notes, calendars, mail, settings. Make it easy for someone to grab their ipad or iphone or macbook and be able to be ready to go, synced.

Thanks!

What glitches? I use MobileMe 24/7 for almost 2 years and have never had a glitch or problem.

All over the air syncing for every device. No plug ins. I want to sync my iphone notes not when I plug in, or with some half baked system of making notes into mail in mobile me, real syncing. Real all over the air syncing will take time, but, at least gradually do some minor issues as the notes.

You don't need to plug in your iPhone to enable MobileMe, you can do it right in your iPhone. Next time, take your time and read the manuals + videos on Apple's site.

Open up and enable mobileme syncing for other apps too. We can't afford to sync over their servers, it's just not secure enough, and doesn't cut it.

I don't get it it here. You ask for openness but then you say their servers will not handle it so better no? Which is it?

20 gbs is a joke, an upgrade is required boys (and gals). Those server farms are not just for more content from those bookstores...

Meh point. I can see needed more than 20 GB, but overall, the average Joe will not need more than 20GB for the next few years.

Security, let me not even go into this, cause it's a bag of hurt, and since this is post is directed to the developers I don't want to scare people away from mobileme, or back stab a............ snip ....

Thanks!

Sorry too much fail... you need to do some research before posting.

I have two iPhones, an HP Desktop, an HP Laptop, and an HP Netbook all synced to MobileME and I never have a problem. I do wish I too could set up a thrid party email client, but such is life.

What's that go to do with anything? I didn't say I had any problems with mobileme, I said apple should take it to the next level, and suggested the enhancements required seeing as we are all having more an more devices. Anyway there is something of a work around to your problem, have the email account you want forwarded to mobileme and set up another outgoing server(the one for that other email account) in mail.app for example, then when you reply choose that outgoing server instead of mobileme one. Of course that can't happen from the web interface of me.com, but if you are on a web interface you might as well go to the interface of that other email account, say gmail. I haven't figured out how to automatically set a rule to use a certain outgoing server to reply to mail forwarded to me.com from the external mail account, but it shouldn't be hard.

How old are you? Reading comprehension zero. I didn't say I had to plug it in to enable it...I said app syncing, any app, over apple's severs and the average joe won't need more than 20gb when they have 500gb and 1tb hard drives? And what is "too much fail", failing to understand what I said maybe...And what's with your attitude, do you have your period or something...just go play somewhere else, PLEASE. What's with you kids nowadays?.

Your posts are hard to follow, and I will not spend time trying to decipher a wall of text.

Going straight to the point and keeping posts simple helps, in this case, yours is a big mess.

Issue #1:

App Syncing, in what sense? Calendars, Contacts, Mail sync without the need of a plug as you so wish.... what else do you need? iDisk availability? There is an app. Pictures? There is an app, both of them free.

What other app do you need to sync to?

Issue #2:

Your web space is not for mass storage, rather quick access to files. If you need mass storage, well as you said it, 500GB drives exists for that, not the Internet.

Issue #3:

Why would you think 16GB is fail? Many people get on that and don't even need that much space. Think of it, 1000 songs is ~1GB of space. 1000 songs can last you for 3 days of non-stop music. Are you really going to need your +40GB library for a trip? Movies or TV shows? 12GB of video is enough for 5 movies (~2.2GB each, actual movies are around ~1.5GB) and much more TV shows, in fact complete seasons. That is all on 16GB. Remember, iPad != laptop.

Issue #4:

Sharing iDisk files. You can already do that. Directly from your iDisk in MobileMe or thru the app. iPad will be able to do that thru the app. I see no problem here.

You need more? Or do you finally get it?

Some of these feature requests need to be argued with however. For example, the 20gb of space. How much do you want? 50gb? Well, Dropbox is very competitive and they charge $99 a year for that - just that. MobileMe does a fair bit more than that. A small bump to 30gb may be in order but don't expect to be blown away. Google gives you more but they want to hawk ads and know everything about you in return.

The syncing system you described sounds just like SugarSync. They offer 60gb for $99 a year.

That's why I posted these feature requests here, to be argued.

I am aware of this options, both dropbox and sugarsync. Apple need to incorporate some of those elements to mobileme. Yes, 50 or 40gb would be far more realistic nowadays. I don't have beef with mobileme, I really like it, I am just making suggestions to bring it to the next level, and it has to at some point, it's a great service, but it's lacking in terms of the revolutionary way in which the cloud is going to work for us in terms of keeping our devices synchronised and our digital lifestyles not tied to the previous one desktop/laptop model, but to multiple pods, pads and phones.
That's why I proposed the much need better security features, the much needed better sync features, the much needed wireless sync features in devices, file management, etc. etc. The conception of the cloud is not just that of a remote storage system, it's more of a remote hq that takes care so that everything is served amongst devices and the user is not bound to one set up, or one machine.

A drop in price for a subscription would be welcomed to and a pay monthly scheme would be great, it'd probably make it a lot more accessible to potential users.

I think there should be a two versions of mobileme;
A free or basic cheaper version including:
Access to web based email with push and sync facilities
Contact syncing
Calendar syncing
The find my iphone feature should be a free feature of the basic version

I think there a basic mobileme account should be a free or at a reduced cost seeing as other web companies such as microsoft, yahoo and google offer a free web based email. granted the web based version have some advertising on them but, still it's free. Also it could be free or cheaper, as a kind of 'thank you' from apple to it's customers for purchasing one of their products.

And then a mobileme pro version
This should include the email, contact and calendar.
And all of the other features such as idisk and photo gallery.
Web hosting, etc
additional storage space

These should be the features which cost a premium price

A family sync feature would be welcome, so you could have a family calendar and contact list for example, similar to the O2 joggler and would be a key feature i would want to see on the ipad.

Lastly, and i know it's never gonna change, but revert the name bac to .mac.

I can't see how anyone can use MobileMe for any length of time and not experience major glitches. Email problems, Weekly View lock-up problems, calendar syncing issues. And only basic email text editing. Weak.

I'd be happy if a MobileMe overhaul simply fixed the service so it worked as advertised.

I agree her MM needs to step it up.

One thing I'd love MM to support is the ability to have iTunes sync files to the MM cloud rather (or in addition to) loading things to the local machine. This would make switching machines so much easier.

I'd love to be able to sync my iPod, iPhone and upcoming iPad via any machine that has iTunes loaded. Essentially making iTunes just common, cross platform interface.

Hahahahaha. Clearly you've never used Back to My Mac or the iDisk. Both borderline on useless.

I have about a 60% success rate using Back to My Mac to screen share.

I really like MobileMe and pay the $70/yr gladly.

However, I do wish that the MobileMe iDisk storage was much faster. Sometimes it can be painfully slow--to the point of being almost useless. Hopefully their new east coast data center will fix these issues.

To Dos and Notes

MobileMe works pretty well for me but it is just unbelievable that To Dos are still not featured anywhere on the iPhone and have to be accessed via a third party app which accesses iCal information and which has to be synchronised manually each day. To Dos need to be part of the iPhone/iPad Calendar app and sync over the air via MobileMe.
Also having to plug in the iPad/iPhone via USB to sync Notes is crazy.
Fix Notes and ToDos and I'll be a very VERY happy MobileMe customer.

"Dear Apple. Love your product, except you are doing everything wrong. Fix it now please."

Sounds like MobileMe isn't you thing Dude.

20gb? I'm jealous.....

try being a non-primary family member stuck at 5gb with no option to upgrade other than, gee, going solo. How about allowing the primary to allocate the space..... I need more, my parents don't.

I rarely use the online stuff - i use the mail app on my MBP, and then everything syncs to my Touch. Meaning, i have not experienced many of the complaints you guys have.

To the guy that doesn't like his name - how about using an alias?

I posted about this in my blog. I strongly believe that a pretty large overhaul of mobileme is coming, likely to integrate (much) better with iOS 4.0 and multi-tasking.

Thanks anthony, I ll have a look at your blog, it's nice to see an intelligent reply for a change in this thread. Some people seem to understand so little yet support their ignorant views with such mind boggling conviction. Most of them here it seems are kids so it's expected...

As is mobileme is a fine cloud service providing most of the functionality that you can get for a smaller fee or even free elsewhere. It's also not providing the functionality of some more advanced services like dropbox. It's very helpful and does what it does well, but it's lacking, it hasn't been taken to the next level required to sync all our mobile life which now has iphone, ipods, ipads, laptops, and macs and makes a nightmare in terms of manual syncing.

Good thing that the head of mobileme has left the company. Now it's up to apple to take it to the next level: seamless and intuitive cross mac/i devices file syncing, far more security, better enabling other apps to sync via mobileme, more user gb and more importantly better access to it and integration of it with the idevices (a mere remote disk with some folders is not where it's at, it's helpful, just that), some integration with social media, etc. etc.

If some people think that the way of the future is that one can go on plugging and unplugging one after the other iphones, ipods and ipads, to sync a few files and one has to know where each file is exactly or where it's not every time, they are clueless.

:)

I also posted a similar thread here called something like "Is mobileme the tool apple will use to unlock the iPad's awesomeness?"

In a rush so can't search at the moment, but it's here. You'll find the replies predictably similar...

Well it's a consolation to know that people's replies are uniformly moronic and I don't get an inordinate amount of them. :)

I am reserving most of my posts for appleinsider nowadays, much, much better crowd there, fewer but older and more intelligent people over. Plus they don't suffer fools gladly, or pc trolls. Here it's anything goes.

Read your blog btw very well put about mobileme and the ipad, nice blog on the ipad altogether as a well.

Like the iDisk idea. For me that is one of the biggest failings of the MobileMe service especially when you look at services such as DropBox and Sugar Sync..

for sure, they are well ahead of apple and they are merely third party developers with little opportunity to integrate everything together like apple can.

Hey thanks :) Will check out AI. Haven't really been so much a part of that community...
