MobileMe renewal question

Reading everyone's replies here, I was curious if anyone had recently bought one of the remaining boxes that places like Amazon is selling and applied the activation code to their MobileMe account. I've been considering that, in lieu of paying the full $99 to renew when my account sub is up.

I renewed my account on March 3 with a boxed code from Amazon and it worked.

FWIW, you can input the codes early and they do not take effect until your subscription runs out.

My mobileme subscription ends on 1 Apr so I bought a boxed code from bhphotovideo and inputted it a couple of weeks ago. Got the email today thanking me for renewing.

I made the switch from using MM as my source for Contacts and Calendar to using Google and I couldn't be happier. It really isn't that hard either if you have all contacts and calendar info on your computer. First sync your computer to Google so it is all backed up there and then you can switch off MobileMe syncing.

My wife got an Android phone and that lit the fire under me. I'd recommend everybody at least try switching to Google before your renewal date comes up. Between Dropbox and Amazon I don't value the online storage like I did before so it just came down to Calendar and Contact syncs for me.

Getting harder and harder to tell what Apple is up to with MoibileMe. I'm pretty certain though that it isn't going to be FREE. No inside information just a feeling based on that fact they're making lots of money on the program.
