Can I do the EFI update without a native Mac graphics card? I have a GTX 980 and 660, but they aren't flashed for Mac. I don't think my GT120's will work either.
My Vega 64 isn't flashed for mac, so i have blind boot. your biggest concern should be the drivers for the 980, web driver?

I ended up swapping in the GTX 660 and everything is working perfect! I'll have to wait until final release for the web driver on the 980.

So, got DP2 up and running on a 4,1/5,1. Can report a flashed 280X works fine, isn't laggy either.

I didn't use a supported machine. I used @dosdude1's MacOS Downloader instead, and made a bootable USB thumbdrive with @tywebb13's instructions. BootROM is still at MP51.0085.B00. No problems at all.

I used the terminal prompt
"sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Mojave\ Beta.app/Contents/Resources/startosinstall" and it worked.

Thanks for the tip! After I moved a copy of Mojave installer into my applications folder, I used this command from terminal and had no problem installing Mojave onto my MacPro5,1.

So far after my install everything seems to be working...I'm using my Radeon HD 7950 and everything seems to be okay so far...

I have since renamed my startup disk to "Mojave" :)

As the "sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Mojave\ Beta.app/Contents/Resources/startosinstall" method didn´t work for me, i made an installation of Mojave in an external SSD on my compatible Macbook Air.

Once finished, booted from the disk in my Mac Pro 5.1 with HD7050.

No problem at all.

So support for 5,1 is added to this beta?

Yes, with certain graphics cards. I wasn’t able to download the developer beta 2 with the GTX 680, but I didn’t try the public beta. I just tried downloading the public beta with the RX Vega installed and it downloads. Another interesting thing is that it is downloading the full installer as opposed to the small developer beta 2 app.

Someone else linked this page that shows it being supported:

Anyone tried to install Mojave on Nvidia 8xx, 9xx, 10xx (MVC) card, even without web drivers afterwards...?

Trying to install a fresh copy of DP2 with an AMD RX480, The install stalls at:

installation of macos could not continue. installation requires downloading important content. That can't be downloaded at this time. Try again later.

I tried with an EFI 7950 and was told the card graphics card was not compatible.

You need to run the developer beta profile app to continue. But instead you can install the public beta profile. It will download the full installer from the app store and it's the same version.

The App's been downloaded, launched and kicked over to the app store. After downloading and starting the install, the error pops up in a dialog box stating:

I'm getting the same error. I'm trying to download the developer beta 2. I logged in to the developer website and downloaded the installer. I get to the point where App Store opens to let me download, when I click on continue the error pops up. I've been trying since yesterday.

Delete the installer. Install the public beta profile. Then download the installer from the App Store and it will be the full installer. Once Mojave is installed you can install the developer beta profile.

I hope someone can help me because I screwed something up.

I have an early 2009 CMP 4,1>5,1. I have two graphics cards installed: the original Nvidia GeForce GT 120 and an MSI Radeon RX580. I had already updated the firmware when trying to install the (unsupported) Beta 1 and today I tried to install the Beta 2. After downloading and launching the installer, I would get the following message:

Installing macOS Mojave on this Mac requires that all graphics cards have Metal support and that FileVault is disabled.

I then tried to launch the installer utility from the terminal and everything seemed to work... Except that nothing shows on screen after restarting the machine - I tried with both graphics cards and it makes no difference.

I don't have FileVault enabled and I am guessing the issue is with the graphics card. Does the RX580 support Metal? Would I be able to boot into Mojave if I unplugged the old Nvidia card?

My Mac Pro 5,1 [...] Metal capable Radeon 7970 and no FileVault.
It rejected me on the installer

I'm using a Radeon 7970 on an MP 5,1 as well. This card supports Metal but the installer says it doesn't.

Why is that?

Hopefully someone more experienced than me will chime in, but... do you have any other graphics cards installed, beside the 7970? The installer was giving me the same issue when I had both the original NVidia and my RX580. After removing the Nvidia card (see posts above) and being able to boot into macOS, I verified that the installer no longer showed me the error. The key, I believe, is that all installed cards must support Metal.

Nope, just the 7970 (native with boot screen) no other cards.
Metal support verified via System Report and OpenGL Extensions Viewer.
FileVault disabled.

Installer says: "Installing macOS Mojave on this Mac requires that all graphics cards have Metal support and that FileVault is disabled".

I guess the installer doesn't really check Metal support, it just checks a list of graphics cards and the Radeon 7970 is not on that list (yet).

I see that the Apple Mojave beta site is now showing:

macOS Mojave supports:

  • Mac Pro (Late 2013, plus mid 2010 and mid 2012 models with recommended Metal-capable GPU, including MSI Gaming Radeon RX 560 and Sapphire Radeon PULSE RX 580).
Why is Apple recommending cards that will not show a boot screen??

Anyway I looked for these at Amazon - of course with both of these there are multiple versions on this and other vendor’s web sites - so choosing the right one is not quite as simple as the Apple guidance suggests:

One of them is labeled as MSI Gaming Radeon RX 560 from Amazon and for sale at just $145.18

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072J422CZ/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

Although this inserts in the no.1 PCIe slot the specs say it uses only 8 lanes (not the 16 available in that slot) - can this really work with Mojave?

The other specifically mentioned by Apple is a Sapphire Radeon PULSE RX 580 also with several version on Amazon…one at $299 https://www.amazon.com/Sapphire-112...&sr=8-1&keywords=Sapphire+Radeon+PULSE+RX+580

Looked like a good buy until I read in one of the reviews “you have to have the REAL 5,1, not the 2009s that were flashed to 5,1... because you need PCI 2.0 to get any performance out of the card at all."

I have a 4.1 flashed to 5.1 so back to the drawing board???

Two questions;

  1. Does anyone have any experience of running Mojave beta on a 4.1 flashed to 5.1 using the MSI Gaming Radeon RX 560?
  2. Does anyone have any experience of running Mojave beta on a 4.1 flashed to 5.1 using the a Sapphire Radeon PULSE RX 580?

No one really knows, it's a mystery for now. That phrase it's the only documentation about this so far - even on Apple Developer.

Yes, just works with 8 lanes from the 16 available. No problem here.

Wrong. 4,1 and 5,1 are the same and have the same PCI 2.0. Only Mac Pros that have PCI 1.0 are the MP1,1 and 2,1 models. RX580 works without problem on 4,1 flashed to 5,1 - it's the same hardware.

Two questions;

  1. Does anyone have any experience of running Mojave beta on a 4.1 flashed to 5.1 using the MSI Gaming Radeon RX 560?

Lots of people here, just search on Mac Pro forum.
