Hi Alex

Yes, I initially installed Mojave to a spare APFS SSD .. then used CCC to clone that install to an hfs+ 960 EVO M.2.

I'm keeping the APFS SSD Mojave 10.14.3 install intact until Mojave goes GM.

Then I will CCC clone it again to the 960 EVO M.2
Golden Master of Mojave was 10.14.0 release, last September…

Off topic :

I was surprised that the 960 EVO 250gb in PCIe slot 2 is getting similar WRITE READ speeds ( see post #22 ) to my 970 EVO 250gb in PCIe slot 4 as there have been a few posts regarding a big speed drop if EVO or PROs are installed in slot 2.

This happened with any M.2 PCIe SSD before 5GT/s support with 138.0.0.0.0.

What is the brand of your R9 280X ( you stated "Radeon" but that is also the reference design that GPU companies use. )
Yes, sorry, it is the MSI R9 280X

What is your current bootrom version ?
140.0.0.0.0

No such thing as an "Evo Pro", it's either a 970 Evo or a 970 Pro.
Yes of course! yes its the 970 Pro

After promising myself not to spend more money on the MacPro, I went ahead and ordered a Sapphire Pulse RX 580X.
Looking forward to getting and installing the RX 580X and the 970 Pro and hopefully then having a responsive system capable of handling big files!

thanks to all

As far as I know, the RX 580X is/was an AMD OEM rebranded product and Sapphire was not selling it.

Assume you're talking about the Apple recommended Sapphire Pulse RX 580 8GB?
Or did you source an OEM AMD Radeon RX 580X (likely branded by Dell)?

You mention Photoshop is slow at saving, have you tried ticking "disable compression of PSD files" in the File Handling section? "Uncompressed PSD files may be up to 1/3 larger but save much faster". Looking at the thread above seems like you may have bigger issues, but worth a go.
