I actually have a 24" 4k (samsung) I use with a 2012 mac mini (via a displaylink 4k adapter). I am not young (45) and find that I can use it at 4k generally but sometimes i find I need to drop it to 1080 (HiDPI) when eyes are tired. I wouldn't really recomend it but I think 27" is a good size. I went 24 as I really don't have the space for a 27.

I've just got a pair of LG 27" UP850-W's as well for my 2018 Mac mini. Running smoothly, even with transparency on. I've turned it off though as I like solid menu bars. It's a 16GB i5. I had a pair of Dell 27" 2560 x 1440's before which run great, but the 4k looking like 2560 x 1440 is much crisper. I can also hook my PS5 up to one at 4k, and PC up to the other one. I'm Super happy also.

Also both screens are waking from standby with no problem.
