Monowear SS band failure

I'm not happy at all and have to agree about the poor quality.

YIKES. I hope you get that taken care of and replaced.

I've yet to wear my link band besides fitting it to my wrist and trying them on, but I sure hope that's not the norm with the rest of their bands.

They're replacing it, but I have to say I'm more than a little nervous after seeing some pictures of broken Apple Watches after just a small drop to an unforgiving floor.

Got my red leather band this week. I cannot get the adapter to lock in place on my 38mm space grey Sport. Both sides just slide all the way through unlike my Apple Sport band that locks in perfectly. I wasn't expecting perfection, but this is bad.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

Every now and then it wouldn't lock into place on the first try, but eventually after sliding it back and forth, it will.

That's one of my gripes with my Monowear bands. It's not as smooth or locks into place perfectly like my sport band or HOCO band but after a few tries, it always locks (so far).

Heres my update on my brown band that I talk about above. I have no problems with the adapters locking in place, mine comes off and goes on almost daily to switch to my sport bands, and the monowear always locks in place. The only thing that I'm starting to see disconcerting is the band itself, the leather dries out quite quickly and leaves the band quite "parched" looking/ dried out. I'm starting to investigate leather product conditioners that will put some moisture/suppleness back in the band. If anyone has any product suggestions, I'd appreciate it. Amour all leather wipes did nothing.

Coach makes leather conditioner and I also have one called Leather Honey that I bought on Amazon...just suggestions from a certified leather purse addict.

Regular, unscented lotion will work in a pinch.

Has anyone purchased a monowear band for their watch? I'm looking to purchase the nylon red watch band, but can not find any feedback online. Just looking to see if anyone has received their band and how they felt about the company and their products. Do you like the band or bands and are they nice on the watch? Do you think they fit correctly/snug when you slide them in to lock.
TIA

I was a Monowear backer and received my bands in the mail today.

I got the silver metal link, black leather, and olive nylon.

The first to be opened was the metal link band. The band came with some of the matte finish scratched off of one of the adaptors which was disappointing but not the end of the world. I only kept the watch on for about a minute because I wanted to try on the other bands. When I took the metal link band off, a pin fell out of one of the links and the band separated. The band looks good but that really makes me question the quality. I see a lot of posts about the HOCO band and it is probably just as nice for much less $. The one thing that Monowear has on them is a better adaptor design(in my opinion) to go with the metal band.

Monowear has 2 different adaptor styles - one for the metal link and another for the leather and nylon that looks like the Apple one for leather bands. I got the silver matte finish on the adaptors to go with my silver sport watch and the adaptor color is much darker than the watch - not really close at all. The one nice thing is that the adaptors are a matte finish and not shiny stainless.

Next up I tried on the black leather band. I am no leather band expert but it just feels kind of cheap to me and seems like something you would get on Amazon or Ebay for $20-$30 with the adaptor included.

Last up was the nylon band. This is the cheapest of the Monowear bands and probably my favorite. It just seems to have the best overall quality and I have not seen anything like it elsewhere(probably out there somewhere though).

I got in early on the kickstarter before other 3rd party bands were really out there. Had I known what the product would be like, I probably would have waited and bought cheaper bands that would be very similar in quality. A lot of comments on kickstarter are people gushing about how great the bands are. Not fair of me to judge but part of me feels like they are just trying to feel better about the $ they spent. I really think Monowear is going to have a tough time getting the prices they are asking for in the long run - the quality is just not there to justify the premium.

Do you have any photos of your nylon watch band on your watch? If so would you mind posting a photo?

I've ordered and canceled several orders with Monowear due to all the delays. I've canceled a nylon green and at the metal band but did get the red nylon band earlier this week. Its a nice looking band and looks good on the watch but I'm not wearing it yet due to how stiff and non-bending it is. I'm a thin guy with a thin wrist and when I put it on it doesn't conform at all to my wrist, it has large gaps and is very floppy not being comfortable at all. I think this is due to how stiff the band is so I'm bending it trying to make it softer. It is getting better but still very firm. I think once it softens up more it will be nice, but until then (if ever) I won't be wearing it.

Strap it to a baseball bat and hit it with a hair dryer..

Today, I received my Monowear black nylon band with black loops. I really like. It snapped into place without a problem and is a little stiff (as you might expect from a new band) but easily conformed to my wrist. I'll follow up as it gets some wear.

Thank you so much for your response!! The red nylon is the one I am looking to buy and that's the exact feedback I was looking for. I have very thin wrist so I assume will have same issues. I really like the look. Thanks!

Just to update my response to you, it looks like you can remove the adapter using a tiny philips screwdriver. I just found out when I was trying to "polish" the adapter to closely match my Stainless Steel a little closer.

Looking good
They came with the adapters?
If they did, can one use the adapters with other bands?

Just wanted to add my observations.

The nylon band does soften, and does so pretty quickly. I found a couple of bits on the inside a bit scratchy, found where they were and pressed it in with my fingernail. Been good since.

Along with my Olive nylon band and Mesh metal band, I found I liked wearing them both a lot. I only switch back to the Apple Sport Band when I'm taking a dip in the pool, or wanted to wear it to bed so it would wake me up.

The Monowear options are rather pricey now, and it's up to them where they go from here. But to put this in perspective, when Apple announced/relaunched it earlier this year, there was another four weeks before you could order the Watch, and then another two before they shipped. I got my Watch on launch day, and up until then and shortly afterwards, not only was Apple the only place for extra Watch bands/straps, they were/are expensive and that's if you could even get them!

I wanted something a little less casual looking for my Watch Sport, and that meant at least USD$149 for something from Apple.

So considering all this, Monowear offered a cheaper (all relative, right?) option, and if you believed them, shipping by around mid to late May. On that basis, I jumped in (Kickstarter) and was relatively pleased by the result.

My next purchase is an imitation Leather Loop, with maybe an imitation Milanese Loop to follow. Sure I could've waited for cheaper options, but it wasn't until recently that we even knew Apple would open the adapters to third party certification, and did I mention I got my Watch on launch day? ;)

I love my red nylon Monowear band! It's not scratchy at all and fits around my wrist perfect! I want to order more because it's now my favorite band I've ordered yet! I ordered a nylon band from another company and it is scratchy some so was surprised this Monowear wasn't.

You'd want some "matching" adapters.
I think they are working on them. For now I bought some rose gold adapters. It's not perfect but until I can buy bands with the good color adapters I'm pleased :).
