Monster Cable is a scam.

One cable can't be better than the other - signals are completely passive.

Monster Cable is a 100% complete scam.

Here is why:

When I worked at Circuit City years ago they came and set up a display in our store. This display was to show the difference between monster cables and the cables that came in the box with your dvd player.

Well, when you see the display the monster cable looks MUCH better. Why does it look better?

The monster screen and dvd player use COMPONENT cables. The other screen uses COMPOSITE cables. Anyone who pointed this out was told to shut up about it since Monster paid a lot of money for the displays. They also had a deal with the managers and whichever store sold the most Monster cable, that stores home theater manager one a Porche (with an ugly monster cable logo on it.) How do I know? My friend, and the home theater manager of the State College PA store won the Porche.

When we replaced the monster cables ($129 ish) with $15 Cables, there was NO difference.

The monster gaming cables actually looked worse then the cables you buy from the game console companies.

Monster is a garbage company.

When I first started in HT I bought cheapo cables. I found that the connectors on the component video would not maintain grip. I bought some monster cables, though the picture was not noticably better the connectors were much better and wouldn't fall off, then again I could barely pull them off.

When HDMI cable around I hooked up a dvd player with two hdmi outs with a $200 cable that claimed to be better, and a $4 monoprice. The difference was so obvious. I wouldn't have believed it myself. I returned the $200 cable.
the only difference we could discern was the cost.
My HT is riddled with monoprice hdmi cables as are my friends and relatives. No complaints.

if you feel the extra $$$$$ is worth it by all means support those companies.

I will say some of the connectors on the more exotic cables are nice, especially the locking ones.

That's not proof of anything just a listing of an item in a catalog. Again added nothing showing a business model nor an explanation of the reasons for the higher cost it just shows an item and a retail price.

Then please explain the higher cost of an HDMI cable and why it is not an obvious scam.

Seriously, you're really going to sit there and tell us Monster gives you value for your dollar ?

Again, naive is not an insult or some kind of name calling in your case, it's a fact. Everyone who knows electronics even a little bit understands that Monster sells you marked up crap in a pretty package.

I have cheap component cables all over. None are loose and the picture is fine. Over the 3 ft distance you have to cover, even an analog signal doesn't require the "shielding" Monster claims to provide. You just bought a dud set of cables and then used that to justify an overpriced purchase.

Monster HDMI cable was 50 bucks at best buy I got 4 of them on ebay for $10 including shipping. Bought a Used PS3 with monster cable and I can't tell the difference between the cheap chinese ones I got and the monster ones. I have a 46 inch Samsung led which is big enough that if there was a difference I could see it.

I also say scam

I honestly can't tell the difference between the $110 Monster HDMI cable I've got and the cheap cable I had just lying around.

Lesson (expensive) learned.

Yes, you do get what you pay for . . . most of the time.

I've found much better deals on Monster Cables online than in the local retailer like Best Buy. Same with HDMI cables (DVD/BluRay -> TV). With my electric guitar, a better quality cable like Monster is quieter than what came with it.

Your guitar doesn't use a digital signal for transmission, it is analogue. Cable quality will impact noise levels. It doesn't for HDMI. A lot of people don't understand this and that is why companies like Monster cable can scam you out of your money.
