After the Core 2 Duo was announced and implemented in most modern laptops I doubt we will see that much of an insane technological increase of power and performance. Most of the technology has been mapped so we might not see these paradigm changes we are hoping for.
Take the Mac Pro, it was just upgraded to hold top-of-the-line graphics and CPU and chipset etc etc. and it got a 'meh' from most people as if it was nothing.
I think the real next step up in performance and power is softwarewise, where the software will actually be written to take advantage of the hardware it's running on. Right now the technology advancement in software is really awfully slow.
