Too little, too late. The train has left the station after your car wouldn’t start and is accelerating away from you faster than your smug can carry your puny undertrained legs. You used to be cool with a dumb but pretty girlfriend, but now she’s on the disability pension and doesn’t pull her weight. You finally run out of puff and spy a smart and good looking person. Then your heart sinks when you look down at the ring which ties you down, and is too hard to leave. All your friends keep telling you how lucky you are, but is it too much to ask for more than watching AppleTV every night and watching her fall asleep when you ask something of her?

I really need better language translation services. Better full screen translation, real time translation, universal translator calls, translate anything in any app overlay. Samsung does all of this currently but it doesn’t do it well at all. We need that Apple level detail and refinement.

None of these features would be possible if not for AI? 😏
It would be nice if someone would start to provide the benefit features would receive from “AI” with specificity.

Kinda what I was thinking, too.
I feel like this is more in line with everyone else slapping a new label on an existing product that reads, “now with 100% more AI” with a logo that insinuates magic to tick buzzword boxes.

This time these features will actually work reliably. Really. We promise! Because, you know, … AI!!!
🤣

on the note of Smart Replies and how many people have been throwing peanuts at the idea: I don’t think having a tool that lets you quickly respond to texts from people asking you for information (which is about as useful as I’d imagine this feature getting, using knowledge from an LLM to more easily pick up on contextual cues and suggest an action in response—isn’t there already some simpler form of this in the Messages app?) is gonna open up the floodgates to everyone’s conversations just being lines generated by a computer. yall get way too dystopian sometimes. believe it or not, the general public likes putting their own personal inflection on a text as much as anyone on here does :p

anyway, whoever said “cautiously optimistic” and got top-voted, I’m there with you. looks like some (some) promising stuff, just hope Apple isn’t playing catch-up too hastily.

Most of these features are items that Large Language Models (LLMs) excel at.

bro you good 😂

Yes! I’m using paid apps to remove objects in photos. Free is better

Re: the generative image capabilities; I”m assuming it will have built in content restrictors that will not allow the creation of inappropriate images.

But still; ‘Siri, create an image of Justin Trudeau wearing an American flag’. ‘Siri, create a selfie of me with hair down to my elbows’ (like when I was 55 🤪

Tom
I hate content restrictions so much. You can’t use basic words for body parts like “leg” half the time in adobe without it bitching about it.

Tried using one of the generative AI apps I use and said ‘Create a photo of Justin Trudeau eating butter’ Not allowed. You’re right though.

So, in other words, Siri: "sorry I don't understand" will be snappier than ever.

j/k
Looking at Google’s responses, I think Siri’s “I can’t answer that” is better than Google’s “Yes, eat rocks!” Those obvious consumer tags exist for a reason :D

Maybe it can, but either you have one tool used to implement them all or you have dedicated tools for each one of them.

The AI way is most likely most cost effective and time saving. Who knows.

That would be such a cop out. All AI is currently browser based so any tech from the last 10 years can run it.
That’s because the tech would be expected to be sending personal information to a remote server, too. For anything a user doesn’t want sent to a remote server, there’s not a lot (if anything) from 10 years ago that would be able to do that. Especially not from a portable device from 10 years ago.

My eyes are already rolling into the back of my head for them to announce these "features" as "innovation only Apple can deliver" when the market/competition has been using said "features" for months if not years already, in a more comprehensive portfolio of services.

Is this one of the smart AI replies to an email?

Let’s assume you are correct that the benefit is cost effectiveness.
Why hawk AI if the benefit is only cost effectiveness?
