They use desktop grade cpus. And nah you still don't have much room to compare. Although they're both cramped up in tight spaces, iMacs get a dedicated heatsink that's the size of your fist for both the gpu and cpu. iMacs tend to stay way cooler than macbookpros.

That used to be correct, but not any more. A couple refreshes ago (actually, it might have been this last one when we moved to the iX processors), Apple started using desktop components in the iMac.

CPU's are desktop class, however the GPU's are either mobility class OR are so under clocked Desktop variants as to make them mobility class in performance.

If anyone can figure this out it's JI. But the entire company around him has a different idea of what success is. The iMac is simple concept executed beyond what most companies are capable of, but there are limitations like high component temp that persist model after model.

Some people make me laugh - Not knowing desktops is actually a windows-running computer.

I don't really think 'desktop' is a term only for windows-computers...
Just because there's written 'PC' on the Wiki it doesn't mean it can't be a Mac. :apple: calls windows computers 'PC's and their computers Macs, it doesn't mean that Apple doesn't make desktops or laptops. Just terms... that's all... get over it. And fairly off-topic.

Maybe next time, you should actually read the link you're posting.

All-in-One computers are desktop computers that combine the monitor into the same case as the CPU. Apple has manufactured several popular examples of all-in-one computers, such as the original Macintosh of the mid-1980s and the iMac of the late 1990s and 2000s.

I don't know about the current or future iMacs, but my '07 20" has a mobile CPU, GPU and system memory.

I figure that's what they need to do to fit it all in such a small space.
