How about the most obvious and I'd say most common emotion experienced during gaming. Anger/Frustration

What the $@#% how did I die!
Wait, what do you mean that's not the right item?!?
How in the world do I finish this level?!?
Oh, yeah... of course the boss is immune to that kind of attack!?!
Aaarrgghh!!! I forgot to save the game!!!!
:D

Thread Ressurection!

I've always wondered if it bothers others when you have to try multiple times to get a sequence right to beat a boss or a situation? It bugs me because I realize in real life, I'd be finished. ;)

In Modern Warfare 2 in the level "Of Their Own Accord" when you see Washington D.C. in flames being attacked by Russians as you are defending it. Sad, inspiring, and a little scary all at once. One of the most emotionally stirring levels (especially in an FPS) that i've played.

+1. Very stirring indeed.

Also agree with the poster who mentioned the ending of MGS3. I enjoyed that game as a whole but thought the ending was particularly poignant and moving.

Saddest for me is probably Lirum's death in Lost Odyssey. I think that they did a fantastic job with the emotional connection that you got with the character in that very brief amount of time.

When John 117 enters the cryo-chamber at the end of Halo 3 was the epitome of badass-ness. Suspending the adventure where he once started really was the crescendo.

"...wake me... when you need me..." EPIC!

I never got to play this. Playstation?

Maybe that was ending I never saw? I just remember a memorial service being held for him. What did you have to do to see that?

I just remembered it also bugged me when the Rooki bought it in Gears of War 2.

I'm specifically leaving out "scary" because there is a thread devoted to being scared in a game.

When I first started playing games on Windows (I was a late comer) I remember playing System Shock 2 and although that game also qualifies as scary (at least back then), it was when --snip--

Spoiler warning next time, please. I know it's old but I had been meaning to get around to System Shock.

Jade Empire left me with a feeling of wonderment as I explored the world and learned about the culture and social dynamics. I don't think I've ever enjoyed a game more.

Bioshock, there's a bit near the start when you go to see the doctor/plastic surgeon guy, that's a proper "You sick ****, you're gonna die" moment, and when you're doing the jobs for the other guy to create his "masterpiece". He's a fruitloop and I was never sure if I was going to have to blow him to bits.
(Proper spoilers, below, for those that haven't played/finished it, stop now! No, really)
But, by far the worst bit in that game is when you think you're nearly finished, and you drop into the "would you kindly" room, and listen to that tape (later realising that YOU are the little boy), and then you get to confront Ryan, and watch helplessly as you bash his head in with a golf club but he just.won't.stay .down!
That whole sequence was pretty messed up
