Depends how you define significant.

Middling usage and using those extra Moto X features you will still likely see a couple hours more battery life out of it due to the X8 architecture.

Is that significant ? Depends if those extra hours and general usage come with better user experience and arguably the Moto X does offer a tangible improvement to user experience over the G, but..... is it double the price significant ????

I would say a couple of hours is not that significant. But 6-7 hours more would be significant to me. Do you think this could be achieved by turning off the always on stuff? I realize this removes a big feature of the phone, but it would be something I would only need to do when I am out all day.

Turn off Google Now and Location History .... That will likely make a big difference.

My Moto G with Google Now and Location services turned on, screen at around 70% brightness lasts over 24 hours with 50% battery and can go almost 48 hours, I have 3 email accounts and text, don't watch movies or play games if that helps. Very pleased!!!
