I think you'd have to wait until the next Nexus' release before making that decision or putting any weight into what anyone else says. Nobody here knows anything about it yet.

I would wait.

Seeing as how terrified Google is of offending Samsung and HTC, I cannot imagine them pricing the unlocked GE Moto X anything lower than what they're pricing the GE One/S4.

Even if money isn't a factor, I would wait to see what the specs of the new Nexus phone ends up being. Maybe the LG G2 is a good hint?

Depends on the price and release date of the Google play edition Moto X. If it's priced near the current Nexus 4 and available soon (next couple of months), I'll get one. Else, I'll just wait for the Nexus 4 refresh.

I don't see the appeal of Moto X. The internals are straight from last year with this year's prices. :|

As a hardcore enthusiast and one who is a die hard multi-platform supporter, I'm up for buying any new smartphone of interest. It's the experiences I enjoy, the knowledge I gain, and the fun I have. Its why I maintain several active lines on AT&T and a couple on Verizon. My choice is to enjoy each platforms strengths and to discuss it with other enthusiasts that are open minded and genuine.

Motorola is separate from Google therefore it will be priced at $575. I further believe the nexus 5 is not going to be in the $350 range.

One word. Updates. I would definitely choose the Nexus 4 for that alone.

Moto X will still (most likely) get updates from the carriers. A Nexus phone will get updates much faster directly from Google.

And if the X is like other recent Motorola phones, it'll have a locked, encrypted bootloader making ROM flashing potentially problematic.

What you won't see, however, is a Nexus phone running on Verizon (which the Moto X will do). The VZW Galaxy Nexus was a joke which languished without updates for ages while the GSM unlocked GNex received prompt updates from Google. Why VZW has to be this way, I do not know.

Moto X or New Nexus Phone

If you watch Leo Laportes interview with Guy Kawasaki Guy clearly says the updates for the Moto X will still go through the carriers. All Moto is betting on is that because their skin is so light and close to stock, the carriers will be able to push the update out faster. I think it sounds like a bunch of bs and the updates still will be well behind the Nexus'. I mean we are still waiting to hear when the Play Edition phones will get the 4.3 update. Simply put, the Moto X will not have any special treatment when it comes to updates. It won't get faster updates because they are a part of Google. It will still be dependent on the carriers which means of course it will take forever.

I have decided I am not buying anything but Nexus devices when it comes to Android.

I would by the current Nexus 4 over the X phone. The price and updates from Google seal the deal for me.

The Nexus 4 is the first pure Android device that I've ever owned and won't be the last.
I'm hoping that the next Nexus is an Xperia Nexus. I'm liking Sony's current design language and would enjoy their take on such a device.

The Nexus 5 will likely be made by LG and will likely be based on the G2. Expect a Nexus 5 and not a 2013 Nexus 4.

I'm going with Nexus 4 (2013). Google isn't going to mess up their Nexus branding. (Nexus 4, Nexus 7, Nexus 10)

A Nexus 5 wouldn't mess up their branding and would only show that they will continue with using numbers.

I think the new Nexus 7 is evidence enough that Google has decided to stick with the brands Nexus 4, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10. It's their way of marketing them as a Nexus family. Sundar also stated the Nexus 10 would be updated later in the year and it will still be called the Nexus 10. It's no different then how Apple labels their iPads, iPods, and computers; or how car models are named. You stick with one name so it can become a known brand, and then just upgrade it with years or generations. Leave it to the other Android OEMs to confuse consumers by changing names with each new flagship.
