I think the new Nexus 7 is evidence enough that Google has decided to stick with the brands Nexus 4, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10. It's their way of marketing them as a Nexus family. Sundar also stated the Nexus 10 would be updated later in the year and it will still be called the Nexus 10. It's no different then how Apple labels their iPads, iPods, and computers; or how car models are named. You stick with one name so it can become a known brand, and then just upgrade it with years or generations. Leave it to the other Android OEMs to confuse consumers by changing names with each new flagship.

It's called a Nexus 7 because there was no screen size change because they didn't feel a need to change the screen size. Same thing with the Nexus 10. They are both tablets and are at good sizes.

The Nexus 4 is a little different. 5" phones are becoming the new flagship size. Just look at GS4 sales numbers.

It's not a matter of keeping the brand. They have a brand. It's called Nexus. You see a Nexus and a number and you know exactly what it is. 4 doesn't mean smartphone, it relates to the screen size. Expect a 5 inch screen on the next Nexus. Expect a Nexus 5.

That may be but I'm still guessing it will be 4.7" again and called the Nexus 4 again.

Between the two definitely the Moto X, the customization of it just makes it appeal to me a lot. However that being said I hope that it gets updates as soon as the nexus devices get it. If not then thats quite disappointing.

I think it is something we will just have to wait and see. My gut tells me it will be a 5" phone since that is the way flagships are going.

Only a couple more months til we find out.

The X is a mid-range phone; the new Nexus will likely be quite well-specced.

I really would be shocked if the new nexus 4 is 5". I may eat my words but I agree with others about keeping the nexus 4 branding and I personally think they believe the sweet spot is 4.7" with capacitative button

Me too I reckon the best screen has to be the 4.7" it's perfect and I don't think they will be calling it a Nexus 5. the Nexus 4 2013 sounds right

What I would like to see is the HTC One shell with a uprated camera and a slightly faster CPU if needed.

I know there is a Google Edition HTC One but as I am in the UK I can't get that and as mentioned Google will always give out updates first to the Nexus phones

I think the new nexus will be virtually identical to the current version just with LTE and better speakers. I hate to say it but the camera has never been good on the nexus phones and it probably helps keep the cost down.

I'm not so sure. The Nexus tablets were named after their screen sizes, so sticking with 7 made sense since there was no bump up from 7". The Nexus 4 was different, as it was 4.7" rather than 4", so it was so named because it was literally the fourth Nexus phone.

If the current rumours of the next Nexus being based of the G2 are true, then it'll probably have a 5.2" screen, in which case Nexus 5 would make sense, since it'll be named like the tablets after its screen size (being close to 5") and because it's the fifth Nexus. After that Google would probably stick with the 5 moniker' like with the 7 & 10, as I couldn't see them moving into the phaplet size range.

All that said, I wouldn't be surprised if Google went for something entirely different, given that they haven't been consistent in naming their Nexus phones up to this point. I'm willing to bet they'll go with something like Nexus G (you heard it here first folks :D).

We'll see :)
