Does anyone know if/when the Motorola SLVR might make it's way over to Verizon? I don't care about iTunes, but would love to have this phone without the music features.

you could just get an unlocked SLVR

It would have to be CDMA though. I don't think there is a CDMA version of the SLVR.

well I don't think you will see a CDMA version of the SLVR anytime soon. If verizon were to come out with it, I am sure they would get the new version of the phone like they did the the razr.

also, I am sure cingular has a lock on that phone for another few months...so no other carrier will carry it anytime soon.

Even if Verizon did get it, it would cost 349058390485093459898945 times more than from Cingular anyway....Verizon just stinks with phone selection/price...

You can say that again!

Verizon got the RAZR many, many months after Cingular, and while Cingular is giving it away free, Verizon is charging hundreds of dollars for it. Not to mention they like to take features away from phones and make you pay extra for them.

9 more months left in my contract! :(

yea, don't get verizon unless you absolutely have to. it is ridiculous how they lock out every useful feature on the phone. i love being able to send stuff to my razr from my powerbook over bluetooth, i don't know what i'd do if i was stuck with verizon and couldn't do that

What features do you want?

(23 more months left in my VZ contract...)

Cingular has the exclusive rights to the SLVR for 3 months, at which point this contract may be renewed. The first carrier other than Cingular to get the SLVR will be T-Mobile because they operate a GSM network. It will be sometime before you see a CDMA version of the SLVR.

Yes, I work for Cingular.

Yeah, being stuck with the best coverage, sounds horrible. I take service and coverage over cool little features, but I'm always on my phone so that's my preference.

I think that is the only reason why people are on Verizon's network...

I thought Sprint's network was the biggest.

Guess what though, on T-Mobile (i love t-mobile), they are leasing Cingular's coverage, so now T-Mobile has real good coverage. Pimpin coverage.

Phones I had in the last year that I hate:
Cingular
T-Mobile prepaid
Virgin Mobile (2x)
Net10
Boost Mobile
Nextel
Midwest Wireless
Yes, I really did have all those phones in the last year.

I guess you didn't hear the latest report from the 'THIRD-PARTY WIRELESS RESEARCH COMPANY - TELEPHIA'...

"Cingular has made history after the leading independent, third-party wireless research company reported for the first time that we have the fewest dropped calls among all major U.S. wireless carriers.

Ads with this great news ran today in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and USA Today, also pointing out our network investment of over $6.6 billion and our 47,000 cell sites, the most of any network.

This achievement demonstrates that our company has crossed an important threshold.

In fact, said Chief Operating Officer Ralph de la Vega, this announcement is only the beginning.

“I want you to know that this is just the first of many more leadership firsts that you’ll see from us in the next year,” he said. “Cingular has a solid foundation that gives us a trajectory to industry leadership by every metric that matters.

"Cingular has the fewest dropped calls of any national wireless carrier. Fewer than T-Mobile. Fewer than Sprint. Fewer than Verizon. What can I say? It’s the network.”

The Cingular network has always been the biggest, especially since the merger with AT&T Wireless...and now its the best!!

By the way, we are changing back to AT&T Wireless soon...haha, just a little insider info...

It might have the largest network but in customer service it is towards the bottom of list.

In regard to the name change, I don't know why they want to do this, they spent so much money with the Cingular brand and logo and now for them to bring back the AT&T Wireless name and the nightmare that people had with them years ago. I think it would have been better for the Cingular name to stay the same and not bring back the 90s of AT&T Wireless.

The biggest issue (for me) is that Verizon will never allow the iTunes functionality of the SLVR. It just doesn't fit with their download-through-the-phone model.

I've never heard of "TELEPHIA"...but JD Power puts Verizon (and sometimes T-Mobile) ahead of Cingular all up and down the east coast.

And Consumer Reports agrees.

Telephia is strictly a wireless research company, thats probably why you have never heard of them, unless you work in the wireless industry. JD Power is reputable, and we will see what their next reports say...and as far as consumer reports...their a joke!

If you haven't noticed, Verizon has pretty much stopped their slogan "the most reliable network". Wonder why that is...

I can see where your coming from as far as customer service is concerned...but it is getting better rapidly. Its always tough when two large companies merge like Cingular and AT&T Wireless did. But I honestly have to say I don't think its that bad. I work in a store and have to call our customer service on a daily basis to do certain things...and no I don't have a HOTLINE phone  but I generally have a good experience.

And as far as the name change is concerned...SBC put millions if not billions more into the SBC name than they did for Cingular...so if they are going to change to AT&T it only makes sense. Plus, the AT&T brand has much wider world recognition...thats probably another reason...

I just don't look forward to explaining to each and every customer why we changed...first it was:

Welcome to Cingular, formerly AT&T Wireless...yadda yadda...

And now its, "Welcome back to AT&T Wireless, formerly Cingular Wireless, which was AT&T Wireless in a past life...blah blah blah"

i wouldn't count on it, if u want to put mp3s on your phone get the moto E815 its great. The biggest issue i have with verizon razr is that use of the verizon UI its terrible. Most of the phones now have their UI except this phone. Their is a way to get stuff off the phone, its annoying but if u only do it a few times its not bad. You need a transflash card, i got one for like $25 its a 128 MB, then is pretty straight foward. I make my own wallpaper things in PS and my own ringtones in itunes/gargarge band...

When will the Cingular name begin to change back to AT&T? It won't affect any of the prices as the AT&T -> Cingular change did, correct? This is just a name change, not a change of ownership like before, correct?

As for when, I'm not quite sure...probably by the end of the year, but I don't have any specific info on that yet.

You are absolutely correct though, the prices will not be changing. This is just a name/logo change. Nothing more than that.

Actually, if you listen closely to any of their commercials they say "The largest All-Digital network. That is a far cry from saying that they have the biggest network, in fact, even if they had the only all-digital network they could still say that they have the largest one. It's just a marketing trick, if you pay attention to a lot of ads they do things similiar to this.

And I'll stick with Verizon, I've never had any trouble with them, not to mention the fact that no other carrier will work in my area, especially Cingular.

And according to this website, Alltell has the largest network. http://www.alltel.com/all4you/

I'm not suggesting you switch to Cingular, I was just pointing this latest research information. Verizon does have a very good network - not debating that.

And I don't know what Alltell is talking about. Its easy to say whatever you want on your own website...but thats certainly not true. I am impressed with their refund policy if you drop off their network - impressive...but I wonder what the catch is. They must be getting desperate...who knows

In my area, I get better reception with Verizon than my friends with Cingular. If I could, I probably would switch to Cingular, because they seem to be getting the coolest phones, but I've got another 1 1/2 years with Verizon, and my Mom just gave another 2 years to get the credit for a new phone, so it looks like I'm stuck for a while. I don't need a phone right now anyways so it's not all bad that I can't get anything now.

Heck, by the time I need a new phone something cooler will be out... for Cingular. I've also never been to fond of the Razer. It's just a little to wide and long for me.
