Sarcasm changes nothing. By your 'reasoning', if it's not a physical item it should be free. Amazing.

No, my reasoning is that the current ideas, concepts, and models we apply to physical goods and their sale don't completely work when we try to apply them the digital world. To imply that they do, or that they're not vastly different beasts is to look like a fool stuck in the past.

MR doesn't allow illegal activity, e.g., threads about Installous, selling UDIDs to get access to developer resources, etc. Get your facts straight next time.

So perhaps explain this to him, in case he did not know? We're not all, clearly, as smart as you are. No reason to be high and mighty about it.

Stealing raises prices. That's not theory, that's fact.

A bunch of us get ML for free due to recent hardware purchases, and since the GM is likely to be identical to the final release, it's likey nothing was stolen. Only liscence agreements were broken. That doesn't raise any prices.

When you own MR, I'll listen to you. And butting into a conversation that doesn't involve you is also rude.

I read the same rationalization by pirates in the iPhone Hacks section. Sadly, the only thing that keeps some people from stealing is the threat of getting caught. When the threat is low, their true nature oozes out.

A conversation that doesn't involve me? You're kidding right? In case you didn't notice, this is a forum. And, if you'll notice, I never said what he did was socially or morally acceptable. I simply provided a possible explanation as to why he pirated.

Oh, and what does owning MR have to do with anything? Should I leave? Because I don't own MR and I am apparently not apart of this conversation. If I agreed with you, would I be apart of the conversation? This is some pretty sketchy logic that has nothing to do with the issue at hand.

That's theft. You can try to rationalize it any way you like but you cannot bend logic.

I swear, I cannot stand people with a warped sense of entitlement.

Again, I never said he was a good person for downloading it. Nor did I say others should. I simply posited a possible reason for his "bad act." I am not trying to rationalize stealing. I am simply defending his right to ask questions in a forum. He already pirated. Your obvious contempt for this will not change anything. He is seeking help. If you wish to comply, then, by all means do so. If not, there is not need to be rude to him or me–an innocent bystander.

I swear, I cannot stand sanctimonious people.

I swear, I cannot stand people who rationalize stealing.

Ouch! I think I made need some aloe for that one...

Seriously though, if you are not going to add anything positive (or at least something that substantiates your own argument), then you should just leave. You obviously don't agree with the OP's actions–you have made that clear enough.

Only developers should have the GM. The OP was rude for even posting. Understand now?

No. That doesn't make any sense. What's "rude" about the OP's post? This forum is full of annoying people who care far too much about what they think other people should and shouldn't be doing. Here's a tip: no one cares.

Totally agree... people that tries to play internet police to feel better at night really piss me off, and it has nothing to do with right on wrong, it is really a matter of when people post, they are mostly seeking advice or help, which is the purpose of these forums.

If people were asking how to get hold of cyanide to kill babies, then sure.. but it's software! everyone has it, "steals" it, borrows it, buys it... in what ever way form or shape everyone have it or have access. How or why shouldn't be the discussion to the extend that it always is on these forums.

/rant better get back to work

Hi Guys:
I currently have installed the Mountain Lion Golden Version, I don't have any developer account, my question is : Can I just download the appstore Mountain Lion and reinstall it in my MacBook Pro without doing anything special? Do I just download the file and install it and it will overwrite the existing files without problems? I need help, please.

Lots of bickering. Anyways, here is how I would do it but keep in mind that GM is likely to be the same thing as the official appstore version so you may not even have to do this.

First I would make a Time Machine backup, then after purchasing Mountain Lion I would make a USB stick install from the .dmg file. I would then boot up the stick, use Disk Utility to erase the GM partition, reinstall ML then restore the TM backup.

So basically this update is just a bunch of iOS apps for the Mac that integrate with my iPhone and iPad? Apple is losing their touch.

What a pompous jerk you are being. You are correct: MacRumors, a site that you have been part of for a whopping two months, doesn't support any of that. However, there are ways to convey this message without coming across as rude.

This site doesn't need that attitude. No, I'm not a moderator, but I've seen sites that have that type of attitude towards questions, and they inevitably end up in the same place: the toilet.

OP: While the above poster was incredibly arrogant and rude towards your question, he is technically correct. You shouldn't have the developer builds unless you are a developer or a tester. Since you are neither, I would suggest downgrading and then waiting for the official release. You will have to perform a complete wipe to downgrade, though.

Sorry, I forgot, being a member since 2009 brings wisdom. Like a pointless response long after the thread is over. Got that off your check now? EDIT: i almost forgot to wish you a very happy third anniversary on MR.

Last year I installed the 10.7 GM on my MBP before public release. ONce it went public the machine just kept receiving updates like it was an app store install.

If you install the GM there is a good possibility you won't have to do anything when it is released.

No, no - not wisdom. It doesn't bring anything. However, just being a decent person does bring one thing: kindness, my friend. Kindness. Now, please - get the chip off your shoulder.

:) And thank you! I almost hadn't even noticed!

Charline Sheen Rant????:D:D:D:D
Ah but who's winning?

Advice to the OP.
Next time don't admit you have something you didn't pay to have the rights to own. What people don't know won't hurt them. At least your honest. That's something.

Who the hell cares if he is a dev or not?
Why all of this fighting, its ****ing stupid!

Op just asked if he could install a X.8 over the gold master.

To be honest, I think you could be able to if it was 10.8.1

But the gold master is the app store canadate.
So it will be the same, and I also think we will get a update if anything changes between them. '

its like we are on 10.8.-1 at the moment.

Wirelessly posted

Actually, he probably won't pay the consequences. People who pirate collectively hurt the economy as they are stealing but seldom get caught. Simple minded people like to think they're doing no harm because they're not stealing a tangible product.

Yeah, this guy may also buy it when it's released but who really knows. I'm sure many who pirate it will never get around to paying for it.

If you "Steal" something, it can't be replaced. He just made a copy of something. It costs Apple nothing. Quit being such a baby.
