Yeah, I use the Swiftpoint GT mouse, because it gets full support with Jump Desktop, but I primarily find touch to be more efficient when navigating and working in iPadOS. My primary use for the mouse in these use cases is with Google Business Suite in the browser. This is why I made a Siri shortcut to toggle the mouse on and off. I just say, ”Hey Siri, Mouse,” and it toggles assistive touch on or off.

It is a great Device with a great screen size but when someone adds mouse and keyboard to it he expects it to give a feel of a Desktop or a Laptop, the user is coming with that mindset. That is what I am debating about.

Believe I know where you coming from. I'm of the belief that the iPad is touch-based interfaced and it's going against the grain by using mouse. But I know people have their own preferences... and to act as if the iPad is meant to be used in a certain, defeats the purpose of a iPad. It can be used in so many ways... that's why I advocate so much for it.

You won't find me using a mouse with the iPad, but I doesn't bother me one bit finding someone who does.

I felt the same way, for the longest time, about adding a keyboard to the iPad. I was an iPad “purist” - something closer to how Ben Thompson probably still feels about the iPad.

The original Smart Keyboard changed my opinion on that. Since it didn’t require power and was basically a glorified (albeit very expensive) Sm art Cover, it was easy to keep attached and I only used it when it was more convenient. Over time, that grew and grew, to the point now I use it all the time.

The current mouse implementation is very weird but usable, and I can already see the benefits. I’m not sure if they should make it more “desktop”-like or simply more refined as a tablet pointer accessory, but I definitely think we’ll see official support for it in the future, similar to controller support for games.

If properly implemented then the merging of “Computer” and “Tablet” is seamless. The Smart Keyboard adds almost no bulk to the iPad but increases productivity astronomically. Arrow keys, Shortcut commands, no virtual keyboard blocking the screen. And it all folds away in seconds.

A mouse has been a different experience for me. It just feels gross because of how poorly it was implemented. But that’s how Apple seems to work. They resist, then they comply with the intentionally crappiest implementation possible, then they finally give in and do it right and get credit for being forward-thinking. Smart Keyboard, Pencil and Camera have made it through their process but the Mouse is probably 2 OS’s away from doing it right. So maybe in 2022 we’ll finally get a Smart Cover with Trackpad.

The frustrating element is that doing it right is easy - we're not dealing with cutting edge technology here.
