Mouse lag/not smooth on M1 Air. Any suggestions?

I’ve tried two different mice with my M1 Air and find the cursor movement is slightly laggy and not smooth at all compared to using the built-in trackpad. I did some research and it seems others are experiencing something similar with certain mice.

It’s leading me to believe I’ll need to buy the Magic Mouse, but the only issue I have with that is the ergonomics of it.

Is anyone experiencing this issue and if you’re not, what mouse are you using with your M1 device?

Yep, I had the same problem with bluetooth mice, especially while connected to a 4k monitor. I have the M1 MBP.

I ended up going with the Razer Basilisk X Hyperspeed and using a USB C dock for the 2.4ghz USB dongle. You can get it for $35 right now at Best Buy online. https://www.bestbuy.com/site/search...rue&iht=y&usc=All+Categories&ks=960&keys=keys

I paid $50+ for it. My wife got one and a friend of mine also got one. Great great mouse imo. It's super light, no lag, and runs on batteries for a long time (meaning, no need to recharge every 2 days).

Same problem here, Logitech MX Master 3, finally I use it with the USB unifying connectivity and it works well but you need a hub or monitor with a hub

Factory reset Bluetooth preferences. Hold down shift and command (or shift option, I can't remember) and click the Bluetooth icon. You should be able to factory reset and then pair everything again. Did that with my mini and everything has been fine since.

Check what the refresh rate for your monitor is. Mine defaulted to 30Hz and that is surprisingly distracting. Cursor looks like jumping instead of moving smoothly. Changed refresh rate and all is fine. There are apps which are free and help you do it. I find it easier than through the Preferences where you need to know which key to hold when...

It’s really hard to say. It’s still a bit choppy but it might be a bit smoother.

I'm not sure if this applies to everyone here, but I'm going to describe the solution that appeared to have resolved my issue (at least for the last 2 days now). I had the issue ever since getting the Mini.

Symptoms:
- Intermittent mouse lags and choppy
- Keyboard input also affected when mouse is in lag state
- Above problem manifest regardless whether bluetooth or dongle connection
- For bluetooth connection, sometimes the mouse disappear from bluetooth preference altogether

Solution:
- Disable "Shake mouse pointer to locate" under Settings -> Accessibility -> Display -> Cursor

Why it makes the mouse lag, I'm not sure. But it appears to be a OS bug or incompatibility with Logitech driver.

Edit: After more than a week of testing, this solution doesn't work.

M1 Air with Logitech MX Master 2. Both the USB dongle and Bluetooth connections have a slight latency delay. Drives me crazy. Never found a solution.

let me try this one. I'm using MK850 with Unifying Receiver. it stutters from time to time for the past few months. hope this will help. will revert with feedback after few days.

Seems to help a little bit, but there's still a momentary stutter every 10 seconds or so that does not occur with the Apple Magic Mouse II.

I had 2 stutters in the past 3 days, comparing to one every half hour before.

Yep. It's a like a microstutter or frame drops but it's definitely readily apparent and can cause me to miss a button if it happens at just the right time.

Appears to be happening with any BT mouse, Logitech worse than others, but they all do it (as far as I'm able to test with the mice I have), except for the Apple mouse and trackpad.

And it doesn't appear to be wifi or other RF interference. Happens at home and at the office.

Exactly the same on all three of my MBP, MBA, Mini.
So it is not even a model specific problem.

Have been seeing this on Mac Mini M1 16Gb with Logitech Unifying USB Receiver and MX Master 2. Microstutters, even when the USB dongle is mere inches away from the mouse.

I'm experiencing the same issue on my M1 MBA with Logitech Unifying USB Receiver and M510. Did not have this issue on my 2015 MBA. I've tried changing the batteries, plugging into different USB ports, and moving the receiver closer to the mouse but it still stutters intermittently

is there anyone found some solution about this problem? I'm with M1 mac mini and MX master 3 and try connect with unifying software and with official logitech app, but still not perfect. Sorry "airbatross" but return in 19h century with cables it's not a solution. ?

A couple weeks in. Come back to report back that the solution I quoted above didn't work. Maybe it helped a bit? Hard to say.

I just disabled Sidecar in System Preferences and my mouse doesn't seem to stutter as bad now (might be placebo). Can you guys give this a try to see if you notice a difference?

That's unlikely.. but I'm giving it a try.

When the stuttering happens, do you guys have multiple users logged in on your system? Cuz it seems that every time it happens, my wife is also logged on in the background.
