Get Swype for android and you'll be in copy/paste heaven. This blows everything else out of the water IMO, including iOS. You have this quick command for cut/copy/paste and other stuff as well (as lowering the keyboard on command - more useful than you'd think) by swiping from the corner "Swype" symbol to different letters. I-N-C-R-E-D-I-B-L-Y useful and it elevates the work flow to just something else. (Swype on iOS doesn't have this yet.) Seriously, do yourself a favour and test this for yourself at least just a bit. Better than sex trust me and no I'm not a teenage virgin
I use Swiftkey and don't usually bother with Swype much anymore.

But isn't what you are saying related to what can be done after text is selected? I never had a problem on iOS or Android with copy and pasting after the text was already selected, or the cursor positioned.

To me iOS is better at the actual text selection, and cursor positioning process: the magnifying glass part. When I first started using Android text selection and cursor positioning drove me nuts. It is not much of an issue now, but I can't deny that aspect was better on iOS.

Yeah, but he was speaking about a bit of both I think. Just to define it a bit:

Cursor positioning - this is where the magnifying glass is good for precision and I like that. On the other hand the simple tap to position on Android works perfectly for me 99% of the time, combined with adjusting the position with the blue marker if necessary.

Text selection - on iOS you have to double tap a word to select it. This gives me a little grief sometimes when it doesn't register the first time and I do it again, just to have the the first tap register as a second of a double tap, so the handle appears and I accidentally select copy/all/define. Here I actually prefer the tap and hold to select, and I like how my Note 2 gives me a little haptic buzz to confirm the selection.
When you start pulling the handles to select more text though, sometimes the blue markers go completely bonkers and kind of invert the selection so you have to start over. This used to drive me nuts too at the start, but nowadays it rarely happens.

Copy/paste - this is what I was focusing on more in my post, yes. What I really love about Swype is that you can paste without having to tap and hold or double tap in an empty space and then selecting from the handle options. You just tap once to select the position and then swipe [Swype] > [v] to paste. It's a small detail but I find these features of Swype really give me a smooth and quick workflow. Kind of Fruit Ninja + text editing in one

All quite minute details of course, I'm not saying what I like is best for all but just that these days I prefer these things on Android (with the aid of Swype). :)

OEM custom skins can be maligned but can also be an underrated benefit for Android. Ideas are not coming from just ONE company but several brainstorming partners. I actually like some of the aspects that LG, HTC, Oppo, and Xiaomi bring to the table. I hate the Google music app as I like Huawei or Sony's default music player. I like LG's lockscreen. I like the customization that Cyanogen Mod 11s, Color OS, and MIUI offers.

The future of smartphones might come from personal customization in both software and hardware (Project Ara). Only Android will offer that. Those are FORWARD-THINKING ideas. Not from threads hoping and speculating if the next iPhone will get 2 GB of RAM that some Android users (ie Note II/Nexus 4 owners) have enjoyed since 2012.

Agreed. it's a preference thing - if you're used to badges and like them, then it's something you'll miss. On Android, display of badges is down to the launcher and some support this and others dont. Google Now launcher doesn't but Nova and others have options to show miss calls, sms, email counts in badges.

Cmon now, no need for this. If an Apple fan said the same thing about an Android feature, you would be banging away at your keyboard right now.

I was worried at first because you are comparing a top of the line iPhone with a $180 off contract Moto G, but you pleasantly surprised me.

Coming back to iOS in about a month and having been gone since the 3GS I'm looking forward to touch id and iMessage the most probably. I'll try to come back here once I get settled to give the backwards account having been an Android enthusiast for a few years.
