I don't want to pry but a few questions:
- what city are you moving to?
- can you choose the flat or is the company doing that? If they are, will you have any input? If the company has already got the flat ask for floor plans with measurements
- stuff you are taking is going into storage in the UK. I assume at the firm's expense? It would save them money if you suggested you not ship what you don't need and store it in the US at their expense. Less shipping expense and storage is cheaper in the US
- it is your wife's job that is the reason for this move? If so, it is not cut and dried that you will easily get a work visa for yourself. Have you checked into this?

Don't want to scare you but lots to figure out.

No it's all good. Moving to London and I'm from there (so already a citizen) so no problems regarding me. We've already chosen the flat, and just by chance the landlords (who are moving to Japan) have an office space I will probably take over.
For better or worse (probably worse) we have a flat allowance for moving expenses.

Well the fact you are legal makes it easier :) I lived in London 2008-2012, West Hampstead for a year and then three years on the Thames in Vauxhall. Visit family about three times a year now.

Funny I lived in West Hampstead and Queens Park before I left (I'm from Cricklewood).

We used to frequent the Black Lion on the high street in West Hampstead. Certainly more new flats have gone up there in the past few years. Where will you be this time?

Ah yes the Black Lion, it used to be very pubby but it seems more gastro-y now. Every time I go it's crazy how many more flats there are. I'll be in Willesden/Kensal Green for at least the first year, maybe more into west London after that.

Ha...my step-daughter (where we visit) is in Willesden Green. About an 8 minute walk from the tube station. Pretty grim pubs around there, one is ok but the others not so nice. But only about 15 minutes on the Jubilee Line to central London.
