I'll start off...

1) It's funny how you talk about the 5S being the same old, yet you go the S4 which is even less of an upgrade from the S3 in comparison to the 5s.

2) Wow... of all the new features... fingerprint is the only one you chose to focus on...

3) Thanks for letting us know. Still don't get why the lot of you feel compelled to start a thread on a mac forum about how you are going to move onto the competitor.

Another classic case of someone only wanting a different shell/bigger screen. Components? Who needs components? Just toss the same components inside a new shell and bigger screen. Now that's innovation!

I bought the note 2 expecting to regret my decision after having the iPhone since the 3g but i didn't, its brilliant. I still think ipads are the best tablets and I know that macs are the best. But the only sheep are the ones that wont look at a product past the brand. Hope you enjoy it

i was there, moved from the 3gs to the galaxy s2 .. now 2 years later, i'm a happy iphone5 user and to me, android is a terrible platform. Android is not for me. I'm a developer and i have to tweak things all day long - and i HATE doing stuff like that on my phone.
If you like tweaking and trying out crazy stuff (if you are the casemodder, overcloacking type on the pc) android is your platform.

if you like a phone that is fun and just works, get an iphone.

funnily enough my note 2 just works and crashes less than my ipad. Its a myth, get over it.

Read up on the Samsung Galaxy S Froyo debacle, especially for Samsung Vibrant users. The short version is Samsung conspired with T-Mobile and possibly others to not release promsied Android updates. Why? Because Samsung wanted to force people to abandon the Galaxy S and buy their newest phone. It was a major screwing of consumers by Samsung, I even think lawsuits were filed. It also helped fuel the burgeoning ROM modders you see at XDA Developers and others.

I still have that Galaxy S. And it still is on Android 2.1, its at least FIVE major updates behind, including Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, ICS, and JellyBean. Outrageous.

After I went through that, I swore Samsung, never again. To this day Android support is horrendous due to multiple manufacturers pumping out phones hand-over-fist, then abandoning the handsets.

this comment is ridiculous. what phone are you using now? how long do you keep your old phones. if yr switching phones every two years it doesnt matter.

yeah, almost 4 year phone isnt supported anymore. if you upgrade every four to five years than samsung isnt for you. get a nexus.

wow. so much hate and negativity in this thread. people have unique and different needs. i demand and expect my smartphone to be actually smart and perform few tasks like my computer. at the moment Android platform provides it.

Some people want to use their smart phone as a mini computer and iphone is far from it. Yes its a nice phone and a great device but ios is severely restricted.

So tell me why on a "smartphone" (ie iphone) you can't put any file you want? YOu can't email files? You can't share files? set a default home page? did you know you lose your files if you delete app by mistake? do you know where your files are on ios? these aren't out of ordinary things one might expect to be able to do from their phones.

to the OP, try out windows phone as well. try a galaxy phone. choose whatever works for you. at the moment neither ios nor windows will offer the power and customization that android offers. contrary to popular beliefs, it is actually simple to use just like ios but you have OPTIONs to totally personalize it IF you choose to.

just want to end by saying with Android, YOU control your device, not the other way.

The iPhone isn't, and never claimed to be, the phone in which you describe. That crown belonged to Blackberry at the time. Now it is Droid phones. The iPhone is, and likely will always be, a multimedia phone. If you want your phone to behave like a computer, then by all means go get a Droid. No one is hating you for it.

You guys are mistaking the intent of this backlash. You're getting negativity for making a post about how you're abandoning the iPhone like it's some big deal that people care about.

Enjoy computing on your Droid and taking crappy pictures with it.

I will always be an Apple fan! I have an iMac and two Macbook Pro's. Why did I inform people that I'm switching? I want Apple to know that although their phone is very good, I'm bored silly with the appearance, the size, and the lack of user preferences, and Siri's serious shortcomings! I'm sure there are some Galaxy users that feel the same way about Samsung. As an Apple user, I'm allowed to share my point of view and some of you act like children.

Went from an iPhone 5 to a Galaxy S4...

Very simply, the GS4 is nice, but I don't love it. It's just okay, and odds are I will be back in iPhone land before the year is over if Samsung doesn't haul ass on the 4.3 update and get their software smoothed out a bit.

I don't hate the GS4. I think overall it is a good phone, but anyone expecting Apple polish and anything close to the notion of "just works" will be disappointed.

I was sorely disappointed by the Apple 5s release. Fingerprint technology is great, but the phone still looks and feels like the first one I purchased years ago! The iPhone is a wonderful marvel of technology. But, I'm bored and stuck into the limited flexibility that Apple provides to it's users. I am moving to the Galaxy IV and I'm happy about my decision. Yes, the phone is made of plastic, but as a user I have greater freedom! Yes, there will be some disadvantages, but I'm ready to move from Apple's way of managing their cult.

Enjoy it though i'm sure within 1-2 years you'll be back, especially with bigger screen future iphone

I left the Apple ecosystem in September 2012 for a Galaxy S III. I figured I'd get access to all the awesome Google services - especially Maps - that the iPhone 5 lacked and enjoy the swappable battery.

Well, 1 year in and here are my conclusions:

- If you must leave iOS for Android, by all means don't get a phone with an AMOLED screen. My phone is almost useless outdoors when the sun's out even with brightness cranked up high manually. If I didn't live in cloudy Seattle, it'd be even worse. Nothing like the nice bright iPhone screen.

- Battery life is awful with the stock battery. It's a good thing the S III has a swappable battery, because even with light use, it barely gets through a full day. If you're traveling and searching on Google and Yelp, forget about it. My wife's iPhone 4 has much better battery management and easily lasts through a full day with similar usage.

- I've tried several keyboards on my phone. First the stock Samsung/Touchwiz keyboard, then Swiftkey, and now the Google (aka what the Nexus gets) keyboard. None of them are as good as a keyboard on the iphone in terms of accuracy or predictive text input. "Damn you autocorrect" isn't iOS exclusive at all and much more of a pain on Android.

- With the exception of the Google apps (Maps, Plus, Google Now) most apps that have an iOS equivalent seem badly designed and unpolished on Android. Yelp and Facebook are two standout examples.

- Android phones will get slower and laggier over time like a Windows PC. I know that issue may be fixable by rooting my phone, but if I brick it while rooting, I'm SOL.

- The Galaxy S3 is known for having GPS issues. It struggles to get a lock in places that my wife's AT&T iPhone 4 easily grabs a location fix. It's also less accurate than the iPhone 4 and will randomly throw you on streets several blocks away from your actual position, which is a pain in the butt in an unfamiliar city. As a result, we use her phone for in-car navigation, despite the disparity in screen size.

I'll miss the microSD card slot and the tight integration of Google Maps, but once my contract expires in a year I'm moving to an iPhone 6. Especially if it comes with a larger screen than 4 inches (although I'd happily swap my Galaxy S3 right now for a 4" iPhone 5).

Besides, Apple Maps isn't the huge failure it used to be.

Heh heh, if you're on Verizon prepare to wait for a long time. VZW was the last major carrier to get the Jelly Bean update for the S III, and Samsung took their sweet time pushing that update out to the carriers.

Also, Jelly Bean had Project Butter - which was supposed to fix all the lag in Android. Didn't work with the Touchwiz on my S III. I guess Google is taking another shot at it with KitKat (4.3).
