Yep W5590

Ok, tnx. Let us know how does it feel after upgrade. I'm planning to do the same.

CPU upgrade process on 2010 and younger MP should be pretty simple, take out old one, put new one, apply thermal paste and assembly back ?

ok im going to get a 7950 Card
will i need to flash it ?
is there any type i need to get or will they all work in my mac pro

There is a Mac edition of 7950 that you do not need to flash HERE

The flash instructions are over on the Netkas forum. THIS is the thread you will need.

Some folks have posted EFI-ready ROMs for some of the more popular 7950 card types in the shops and if you match the card exactly, you can just drop the ROM straight in. For example, I am using THIS card, manufacturer code 11196-17-40G. If you were to get the same card I could send you the EFI ROM and a backup of the original ROM. PM me if you do end up with that card.

As I said above, the instructions will be on the Netkas.org forum.

Since I have already done the EFI part of the process and generated a new ROM, all you would need to do is to download the latest version of ATIWinFlash from somewhere like http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/2232/ati-winflash-2-3-0/ and follow this short tutorial...

http://www.overclock.net/t/1353325/tutorial-atiwinflash-how-to-flash-the-bios-of-your-ati-cards

I will PM you both the EFI-modified rom and also the original rom just in case.

ok
i got the card
and flashed it

all went ok on the PC side

until i put the card in my Mac Pro

on power on i get the Bong but no display on any of the ports
any thought's ????

Since I gave you the link to the Original ROM you will have done no harm to the card so you don't have to worry.

Assuming the ATI WinFlash went successfully and didn't report any issues, you might just need to do a PRAM reset to get the card to show but as far as I remember when I replaced my 5870 with the 7950 I didn't have to do that.

You could flash back the original BIOS and see what difference that makes when you put the card back in the Mac Pro - it is entirely possible to get a faulty card.

With the original ROM, did the card boot on your Windows PC successfully and show your display properly?

Hi
i have no error with winfash
i also saved my rom first (just in case)

also my pc booted with the card no problems
i did not reboot back into windows with the new rom !!!!

Yes, the card only needs 2x 6-pin which is why a lot of MP users chose it.

You may need to perform a SMC Reset but you may also need to check that you are using the appropriate plug and cable from the back of the card to your monitor.
