Yep W5590
Ok, tnx. Let us know how does it feel after upgrade. I'm planning to do the same.
CPU upgrade process on 2010 and younger MP should be pretty simple, take out old one, put new one, apply thermal paste and assembly back ?
ok im going to get a 7950 Card
will i need to flash it ?
is there any type i need to get or will they all work in my mac pro
I see that but it cost so much moreThere is a Mac edition of 7950 that you do not need to flash HERE
ok i have ordered the same card as you 11196-17-40G it will be here in the morning. Are they hard to flash ?The flash instructions are over on the Netkas forum. THIS is the thread you will need.
Some folks have posted EFI-ready ROMs for some of the more popular 7950 card types in the shops and if you match the card exactly, you can just drop the ROM straight in. For example, I am using THIS card, manufacturer code 11196-17-40G. If you were to get the same card I could send you the EFI ROM and a backup of the original ROM. PM me if you do end up with that card.

if I can flash it then I will get a PC on and flash it
not a problemSorry was not aware your budget if for a flashed 7950. But a flashed card would also work fine.

ok
i got the card
and flashed it
all went ok on the PC side
until i put the card in my Mac Pro
on power on i get the Bong but no display on any of the ports
any thought's ????
Since I gave you the link to the Original ROM you will have done no harm to the card so you don't have to worry.
Assuming the ATI WinFlash went successfully and didn't report any issues, you might just need to do a PRAM reset to get the card to show but as far as I remember when I replaced my 5870 with the 7950 I didn't have to do that.
You could flash back the original BIOS and see what difference that makes when you put the card back in the Mac Pro - it is entirely possible to get a faulty card.
With the original ROM, did the card boot on your Windows PC successfully and show your display properly?
Yes, the card only needs 2x 6-pin which is why a lot of MP users chose it.
You may need to perform a SMC Reset but you may also need to check that you are using the appropriate plug and cable from the back of the card to your monitor.
ok
i have put the card back in my pc
Not good
the card is not recognized by the PC
when i try and run the winflash
it says
No Valid Adapter could be found
so its dead !!!!!!
Ok CPU's are and working very well
