Did you migrate the OS from an existing machine? You may want to try a fresh start. I needed to do a clean install before my MP became somewhat stable. 10+ years of crufty KEXT's and other background garbage were not helpful for good uptime.

Hi Bakafish - thanks for your response! This is a factory fresh install. I didn’t migrate anything over and in fact did a clean install of all the applications. I am happy to try and do another clean install.

Before you installed anything, did you have this issue?
These things seem odd to me? What GPU are you using? What upgrades have you done?

little snitch, serial manager suggests cracked software maybe you’ve got some bugs there causing crashes.

Well, "factory fresh" is a little shaky.
Had some probs with mine brand new.
Apple support recommend new clean install.
Did that and everything has been working perfectly...

Before you installed anything, did you have this issue?
These things seem odd to me? What GPU are you using? What upgrades have you done?

little snitch, serial manager suggests cracked software maybe you’ve got some bugs there causing crashes.

Hi thanks for your response. Honestly don’t know if it was happening before software installation because I started installing software shortly after first boot.

I don’t have any cracked software. I use little snitch as my primary firewall and have multiple volume licensed software that connect to an authentication server for its key.

Just had another crash and reboot. The log now reads:

BAD MAGIC! (flag set in iBoot panic header), no macOS panic log available

When it reboots like this, I do notice that one of my HighPoint NVME RAID cards is not being recognized. I guess I should try a clean install?

Your Radeon Pro 580X is the cause of those crashes. Likely something wrong with the card. I am not aware of any Polaris driver issues causing such frequent crashes.

Thank you! I guess time to call Apple and see what solutions they can offer.

Are these crashes happening while in sleep mode? I disabled 'power nap' in the energy settings as I was getting regular crashes and mail went offline using it anyway. I still get occasional kernel panics, all have been sleep related.

Just to add - I did not do a clean install with my 7,1 NcMP. I am not using the Apple supplied SSD. I am using one of my Samsung 970 Pro SSDs on my HighPoint 7103. I updated the drive that came from my 5,1 cMP. I've had no issues either with the Pro580X, that I pulled or the Aorus RX5700XT that I now use.

CMM Chris and everyone, thank you all for your advice. So I just had the Radeon 580X card/MPX module replaced by Apple. Everything seemed to be working great, but then this AM, returned back to see that the Mac Pro had restarted with the following crash log. I guess at this point, I may be committed to doing a full factory reinstall of the OS and all my software, unless others have any other suggestions?

If you have the time...
I would take out any internal SSD or HDD devices you added and then do a factory fresh reinstall and NOT move forward with any additional application installs. Go back to the initial RAM configuration that the machine came to you with. Run this configuration (disable sleep mode) for 24 hours.

Happy to try that.

I did speak with Apple Support and they recommended updating to 10.15.4. Since doing this, I have to admit, I haven't been getting the original crashes. Instead I get this new crash, and its specifically occurs after the system wakes up from sleep:

It's a silly thing to have to work around... but I don't let the office 7.1 go into sleep mode. It's either on or shut down.

Crashes ala sleep mode are well documented in multiple threads.

It's a silly thing to have to work around... but I don't let the office 7.1 go into sleep mode. It's either on or shut down.

I just turned off that feature in the energy saver preferences. Let’s see how this pans out.

Well despite preventing sleep of the HDDs on the energy saver preferences, the machine still seems to shutdown with the same CPU CATERR panic.

As I said: get your machine replaced. This has nothing to do with the known wake from sleep issues. It's an entirely different panic and it sure looks like some fault in the RAM / CPU area. So simply get this machine replaced and I am sure the issue will be gone.

Be on the lookout for his returned machine to be sold on the Apple refurb list

Im definitely trying - they wanted me to speak with apple technical support first to confirm its faulty prior to setting up an exchange. Have set up another call with them.

Sorry to hear about these issues. I am still working with an Apple engineer on my issues with the 7,1 crashing while waking from sleep with the Highpoint 7101A card installed. Apple made me think the issue was High Point’s responsibility, and things indeed were better when I removed the card, but it seems these issues are more widespread and related to Catalina, which has been nothing but problems for me.
