Why can't the infamous "Dev team" simply say, hey users, we recognize how long some of you have waited for the iPhone 4 unlock.... to be honest, Apple got us this time, and we're still scratching our.... heads over what to try next.

No, Musclenerd and co. instead take to Twitter, must be easy to avoid making a statement with a 140-character limit.

Well 4.3 is here Musclenerd, what's the answer?

Just say you guys can't do it yet and you're sorry. Is your e-street cred and Twitter count that important to you? Oh wait, right, you're waiting for the "perfect time" to unveil it.....:apple:

Rx Valium ;)

Alot of you are missing the point and being ignorant. The OP is basically calling their bluff and has spoken up for how others feel as well. The dev team is leading people on and not delivering on their word. The dev team reminds me of bush in office with the whole "read my lips". Unlock is necessary for people like myself where in my area tmobile offers better service, bonus minutes when refilling & better plans, better customer service. Not everyone plans to resell their phone or travel out of the county. The dev team said they had an unlock ready and now that the time has come they folded and are frozen. It's like a girl leaving you blue balled.

But you KNEW when you bought the iPhone that it was locked to AT&T. Nobody made you buy a phone that wouldn't work on your carrier of choice without help from independent developers. So why complain about a bad situation that you voluntarily put yourself in?

What part of This Is Free don’t you get? And we’re being ignorant???

Big difference here is I no longer expect anything from the Dev team, so I'm never disappointed when they don't deliver. Again.

I understand both sides, but again when someone says they are going to do something then you expect it and expect them to deliver. I found a guy locally who'll trade me the exact same phone straight up but i'm throwing in some cash $ since his is unlocked+jb and mine is just jb. It's like i'm paying for an unlock. Sure they do it for "free" or "on their spare time" but people are willing to donate, so there's no excuse for that. The real reason I think they don't accept payment(s) is because they don't want to end up like geohot where the payment method like paypal was used against him. Another thing, they just really could not know what they are doing and got stumped, we're just all wanting the truth that is all..come out and admit it. Oh and by the way, those of you who are bashing others need to chill and just let it be. When you listen to a song and you don't like it, what do you do? You don't listen to it and keep it moving. You don't hear the artist telling you "hey if you can do so much better, go put out a song then" so quit while you're ahead.

Chances are, they have an unlock ready to go. I'm sure the problem lies with the fact that it has side effects, like GPS breaking or killing the battery, both which would cause a person like you to whine even louder. You are not OWED an unlock.

not that i care about what OP is saying i am posting only because if found this topic really interesting. There must be a bazillion parties and other gray market folks interested in this and ready to throw money at it. I am really curious why earlier the hacks were easy to find and now its so difficult.

I see 2 possible explanations

1. Dev team lost out on some really good hackers. (unlikely though as there should be people all over the world trying to do this)

2. Apple worked their asses off to make this impossible if not difficult. If you can see how much creativity and talent they have to make a great product like iphone4, am sure if they put their mind to it they can make it insanely difficult to unlock.

(considering that apple has a lot of money tied up with this I am betting on the latter)

i'm not whining and I never said I am OWED and unlock, did I? I and others have stated that they shouldn't have made a comment(s) the directly stated there would be an unlock at this point of time then didn't follow through. Anyone can say that, so it's more about action speaks louder than words. YOU MAD? You missed the point.

No, we didn't miss the point. Yourself and every other person whining about a release date in this thread believes that you are owed a solution, because there is something you can't do with your device.

You can only do with your device what Apple says you can.

The only reason you believe you can do more is because of guys like Musclenerd. Have some respect, and wait for an unlock just like everybody else.

A large corporation (allied with ANOTHER large corporation, AT&T) with giant campuses full of well-paid engineers and technicians working round the clock to prevent jailbreaking and unlocking. Versus a few people in their rooms, who meet up once in a while on the web or in a basement, working for free to help out people from the goodness of their hearts and the sheer pleasure of doing what they do.

Yeah, let's complain about the hackers. Sure, that makes sense.

Again, if you bought a phone from AT&T and now want to run it on another service (leaving world travelers out of this for the moment), too bad. Complain to the government, complain to your service provider, complain to your mommy. It's not anyone else's fault, no one owes you an unlock, if you see someone post that they have an unlock and then they don't release it in a (to you) timely manner, it's still just YOUR problem. I hope they NEVER release an unlock, just to hear you continue the whine. Who ARE you people? How did you end up this way? Why can't you just go away? Or go take some courses and figure how to do it yourself. Nobody owes you anything. Deal with it.:eek:

Y'all are missing the point and just blabbering away. "go complain" is all I read, but really you're not saying "he said it was going to release on this day and it hasn't" so he hasn't kept his word. Like I said, i'm getting an unlocked ip4 already soon so it's no biggie to me now. I'm saying the dev team or anyone else should not state things and then not follow through with them. Wouldn't you be mad if the president & our government did the same thing? Oh wait..nevermind. Time to move to another country for some of you all I guess  By the way, the only jb or anything out of at&t that i've used was what geohot put out there, so yeah he's the only person to thank.

Amen

i actually hope they release the unlock commercially to be sold for a pretty penny to those unlocking websites which charge you for unlocking. That way those guys make some money and people stop being such bitches.

Thats because you pay taxes and its your presidents job to stick to his promises. he owes you that. dev team doesnt owe you jack. pick a better analogy next time around.

I was being sarcastic. By the way, no need to get upset people :) Born free, taxed 'til death. The president doesn't owe you anything, obviously bush proved that. All of you seem like avid supporters of going against the idea, wish you would be on the front line doing the same for your country. How ironic. I'm still getting my ip4 unlocked so blabber away :p

..and you still missed the point. I never said anyone owes me an unlock. I'm saying they made a clear statement and didn't live up to it so just come out and admit fault.

Some people just can't comprehend things correctly, which is why the U.S. is falling behind. SMH Bottom line, those "hackers" stated they had this/that done and in reality they didn't. They spoke too soon and now are hiding and have no answers as to why they failed. I'd say sell or trade your iphone 4 and pay whatever you can to get an unlocked iphone 4. Stop playing the waiting game, it's been several months and there was even barely a jailbreak here and there which some people didn't need anyways.

you weren't being sarcastic. it was a dumb analogy and now you're backtracking.

24usedtorock, I love grilled cheese sandwiches. I'm so pissed off that you haven't made me, or anyone else on this forum, some bread and cheese goodness....you hack.

What I said above makes as much sense as being upset with the people who are going to share really cool stuff the entire world, for free. It's being worked on as I type so hopefully that will bring some relaxation and happiness to you. If not, I suggest making a sandwich. Perhaps some "herbal remedy" wouldn't hurt either. :D

So what's with all this talk of something 40 bit?:)

OP needs to grow up and realize that he picked the wrong side of this fight. The dev team has done an amazing job but they are up against a giant company capable of throwing billions of dollars into stopping them. Apple has thousands of full time employes working for them and giant carriers demanding that the unlocks be stopped. I would never buy an iPhone with plans to use it on another carrier because eventually the dev team is going to run out of methods to unlock the phone and people like the OP are going to find themselves with an overpriced iPod touch.

MacRumors Forums << What's Happened Here!!

First let me say that it's sad to watch MacRumors Forums turn into a "bash the OP" site. I can recall what I liked about this forum when first joining years back. The fact that it was a place to post and/or discuss issues and get solid feedback from those in the know.

Now, instead of focusing on the subject and discussing/helping, it's turned into a focus on the "OP" and bashing him or her for expressing. With all the back n forth blah blah, I wonder what level of respect from the company we all so appreciate and like, gives to this site in this day n time as compared to years ago.

Sure'd be nice to see MacRumors Forums get back to more helping and solving vice so much negativity.

To address the "OP"'s topic, point well taken...There are many military members stationed overseas with their iPhones sitting on the shelf awaiting an unlock. His leads to the bigger issue of why we have to wait for someone to create an unlock when carriers so bent on fear of customer loss, want provide. As seen, grass isn't always greener on the other side, make your service the best it can be always vice holding back because it's saving a few pennies and you'll see the customer stay with you. Example; the many Apple customers that have stuck with the brand even in the face of what appears on the outset, a superior product.

So, it's not always about someone wanting to jump ship to another carrier but moreso about product usability at all times.
