Hi guys,

When I import a new music folder into the music app, and select Edit>Convert to AAC, I get the new converted files BUT music keeps the original MP3s alongside which I then need to delete one-by-one – frustrating!

Is there any way to automatically keep ONLY the freshly converted files?

Thanks

It's always been like this, from what I remember. I still use iTunes and on the rare occasion I convert files, I end up with the same thing. It is annoying at times, but I think it's a safety measure so people don't lose files unexpectedly.

Can't you change the import to covert to AAC, so it coverts it automatically during import?

Thanks. I have, it doesn't work. I re-tried with a single MP3 import (add to library>chose mp3 file from a folder>clicked add). The file showed up in music, but never converted.

I think this setting applies only for a CD import?

Mh.
There is no difference whatsoever if I select File>Create AAC OR File>Convert to AAC.
In both cases the file is converted, and a AAC file appears in music.app alongside the original file.

Maybe its a bug. That being said, the offline library section of the music app is starting to get an antiquated feeling, like its being left behind. Which is sad.

there
It's not a bug; it's 'convert', not 'replace'. It deliberately puts the converted version alongside the existing one.
or deliberately puts the version below the converted song.

is there a way to replace the original m4a song?
i did not think so.

just that the payback is much clearer and the aac song can be moved to an iPod.
Mr Alan Parsons and his Projects are in m4a, which the iPod does not like.

You don't have to delete them one by one. Sort your library by Kind, group select the MP3s, and delete them all at once.
