I haven't updated to Catalina just yet, but planning on doing it soon. My main concern is the change from iTunes to Music. I can see from other posts and news stories that music functionality pretty much remains the same, which is good to hear. I'm more curious about any bugs or odd behavior, for example songs, artwork, ratings, etc. getting messed up or disappearing. I've spent many hours working on song-level metadata and would like it all to be there when I switch over. Any comments good or bad are appreciated. Thanks!

I haven't honestly noticed a difference in the Music App. Overall it appears fine to me. I do not, however, pay as close attention to song meta data as you do
Hey thanks for the reply. Good to hear you're not seeing any issues.

I braved it and updated to .1 and the issues I had when I first upgraded have all gone. It's now really smooth and I'm glad I upgraded.

I initially had issues fetching artwork, it all appears in time (god knows how). I did the last few by manually entering in the artwork but it seems ok so far. The only annoying bug I have found is if you click onto an album in album view, click out again and it takes you to the top of your library, and the search function is crap, but it can be addressed in a later update imho.

I find the new Music app to be pretty much the same as iTunes was. I like the look of it more but performance wise it still is a bit sluggish in my opinion unfortunately (as iTunes was also). I didn't encounter any major bugs but can't tell you anything specifically regarding meta data. The small bugs that I'm seeing are not severe enough to not update in my opinion.

Thanks for all of the replies. The link to the other thread is very helpful too. Seems the Music app is usable and stable, but needs more updating by Apple to fix some annoyances.

It's a steaming pile of ****. All my metadata carried over but missing a lot of artwork that the app suddenly can't find even though it found it in Itunes. And there's so many stupid things with this app. It's so half baked.

It doesn't remember column settings and resets to the basic columns every time you close the app. It doesn't show album artwork in the songs view anymore. You can't sort album view by date added. Search is a mess. It doesn't search in the song view anymore. There's one page for all search across Itunes store, your library and apple music.

And there's a lot of stupid design issues as well.

I'm looking for an alternative.

The album artwork took a while for me, but I have over 420 gb of music. It will populate, just give it time. I agree though, there are still some issues to be fixed.

I think the artwork thing is due to doing away with .xml files and identifying metadata a new way? Just suspecting this.

I did upgrade to version .0 and the store even play any song, I just could not buy any music anymore. Now with .1 version, some issues remains as the Equalizer disabling each change of music track.

For most of users, Music should run fine, but if you're heavy user of nice Apple sound capabilities, hold on to newer versions of Catalina, or be aware of the bugs related by other heavy users.

I nervously installed Catalina yesterday on my iMac and for the most part it has been fairly smooth for me. I had the missing album art issue early on, but it seems to have corrected itself. It is quite baffling how some Catalina users have had so may issues, while others have not.

Yeah. I was on the phone with Apple Support, they basically said, "Sorry. Nothing we can do until they update MacOS". Lmao.
That is not good. Did Apple Support give any indication of when the next update might be?

Let me put it to you this way. I had an issue with book app(re: graphic heavy books) in Mojave that I first reported in February. It wasn't fixed until Catalina was released.....

It was suggested I either do a clean install of the OS or set up a new Admin profile. Both of which I'm just not willing to do to fix something that will probably happen again.

lol nope. she didn't have a single suggestion that we might be able to try. I told her everything I'd done and she was just like, "well........ okay I guess we'll just have to wait. keep an eye out for update notifications."

that sucks about music and AppleTV apps - exactly the problem I am having. Very annoying. I can sign into iCloud and App Store, which is weird, as I thought it would be "all" or "nothing".

I have exactly the same issue, I can sign into iCloud, but can’t sign into Music, Podcasts or the TV app, it excepts my username and password but does absolutely nothing afterwards. Very very frustrating ! I hope they can get this fixed, as I can’t access any of my paid for music, shows etc.

I feel like we should get compensated for the paid content we are subscribed to while it’s not working. The very week Apple TV Plus comes out and we can’t access it!

Same here.
Will sacrifice my Mac for 10.15.2 Beta 1 just to see if it fixed.

I've avoided using it but had a lot of new live shows to add and I have to say I completely agree. It has to be the most frustrating downgrade "upgrade" I've experienced with Apple. Search is painful. Editing metadata is painful. It crashes all the time. You go into an album in album view and go out and it takes you right back to the top. You can't select multiple files you search for which makes metadata even more painful to work out. And then on top of all that, it's a total crapshoot as to whether music will even upload to the cloud. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I miss iTunes so much right now.
