Wow! I did not know that. Thanks for the heads up on the web driver issue. Maybe you can give me your opinion regarding a Sierra Upgrade on my MP 5,1. So far everything works really great for me on El Capitan. My card however is a flashed version with a working Apple logo on startup. I run my HTC Vive from bootcamp on Win7. In case I would upgrade to the new Sierra MacOS, do you think I will encounter some trouble? Could an upgrade to Sierra screw up my Win7 bootcamp partition ?(I hope not, otherwise I just keep everything on El Capitan - plus I am not sure if HP will issue a new driver for my first version HP envy printer..)

Cheers

A nice overview regarding performance compared to other options may give you this article here:

:)

I haven't encountered any issue with Sierra. There are some Wifi cards that shipped with the 4,1 that don't work.

Just keep a drive with El Capitan until you are sure you can migrate to the new OS after thorough testing.

Out of interest, what card are you using and what's your Vive performance like?

Thanks, thats what I thought. Unfortunately, my time capsule is too small to do a full backup at the moment.
I will need to pimp that old 3gen to a 4 TB HDD

I have the improved cooling EVGA Superclocked version with two fans and larger heatsink. I got it from the german equivalent of macvidcards in Berlin.
With the Vive, I was a bit nervous if it will work or not when I bought it. (In the VR world, you need to have a powerful CPU, - a lot more powerful then the MP Xenon from 2010) But it turned out surprisingly good. The Nvidia tool for Checking your VR-Ability indicates an approved sign for VR in shiny green. Frame rates are great for what I play there. Since I am a total space nut, I am playing Adrift VR, and The Solus Project. I actually bought the set for those kind of games. Obviously a strong GPU can pull a classic MP into the VR realm. However, I have to mention, there is now data or game on usual HDDs. Its a SSD only set up, and the game is installed on an Anglebird PX1 PCI adapter. That could have mitigated usual bottlenecks.

Sorry to be thick but a superclocked version of what? The 7950? After a day googling places like Amazon, it's starting to look like I can't buy anything that isn't overpriced second hand gear or doesn't come with a huge list of downsides.

From his signature, it's a 980 Ti SC
