I just hope it wasn't found by some dishonest person and they kept it for their own personal use. Or if it will be found after all the rain we will be having today and in the coming week. Either way, its not looking good. 🙁

Update. He has a new iPhone, it just came. How can he get all his old information back... IE his number back onto his new iPhone without the old SIM card? I assume he won't have his old number. I just want to know ahead of time if it gets to that point.

He will need a new SIM from his carrier. The carrier should be able to disable the SIM in the old phone. He should be able to keep his old number.

He just got back less than an hour ago. He did things at the AT&T store. I hope I'll be able to help him.

Almost a month later, after buying a new iPhone. His old iPhone was found. He thought he lost when we were out of town. My mom found it. So what should be done now?

Mom always finds things... :D
Just keep it as a backup phone in case he loses his current iPhone.

Which one is better - the found one or the recently-purchased one?

At this point you have retrieved a forgotten item. What to do with it is up to the owner.
I would however want to make sure that find my iPhone is indeed active this time around.

I'm sorry about your dad. :(

His new one is the iPhone 12. Maybe the iPhone 12 Pro. I'm not sure.
Word of advice... give back to your Dad everything he wants. Download apps for him, teach him about fun apps and everything as if he was a 4 year old. I was like that with my dad when we found out he had cancer. Instead of grieving, I decided to take the time to retribute. We had a blast.
