I finished my first app and it is now available on the app Store!

Have you ever been out shopping and seen a sale? Have you ever stood in front of the sale signs and tried to quickly calculate the sale price in your head? how about adding the sales tax as well!?!?

Enter FinalPrice.

This app will let you input the Original Price of an item, input your local Sales Tax and then scroll to the sale percentage. Hit the "What's the Final Price" button and you will see EXACTLY what you will pay at the register! NO MORE GUESSING!

So you mean, an app that will calculate a number times 1.08? (or 1.06 or whatever the sales tax is in your area). What a deal!

So it's a calculator? how long did it take you to write this? an hour at most?

Wow seriously, its my first app... I really didn't expect to be met with such rudeness. I wrote the app and i posted it on here... There are thousands of tip calculators out there and people love them. I have always wanted one that would calculate sale percentage and tax, so i set my sights to write one.

Maybe someone else wants the same thing, so here it is. For those of you who do not want it, please move along...

Well said. Congrats on your first app.

pretty cool first app. Give the guy a break. I'm sure many will find this useful.

Thank you to those are supportive.

That warms my heart. The initial responses blindsided me with a sour taste in my stomach.

Does anyone have any ideas to really get this advertised cheaply, i am a regular guy with a family and don't have hundreds of dollars to spend on advertising. Any of your suggestions would be wonderful

This might seem strange, but because your app is so focused, I think stylizing it some could make it popular. I think the Final Price button should be on the bottom below where you pick your sales tax because it is the last button you press! I don't know how goofy it would look, but I think stylizing the button as the focus of the app and at the bottom might make a small improvement!

omegaphil6,

You'll find this forum is FULL of douche bags. They have nothing better to do then strap on their internet muscles and act like a prick. And you are correct, there are loads of tip calculators, and this one serves it's purpose as well.

Good job, keep it up, and don't listen to the "douche bags" of the internet forum world. Chances are, in real life, they are to scared to leave their moms basement.

If it was a good app, it would sell itself. IF.

It's a cruel world, and someone selling a simple app that anyone with xcode and 30 minutes to learn can do and then sell it for 99 cents. I'm sorry, but that's very very kitschy.

This app should be free and used as a learning experience for yourself, it should also be used to get your name out there. Like singers do with demo tapes, then when people like what they see, they come back for more product and willing to put some money down on it.

I'm not sure you're ever going to make that $99 Dev fee back from this app, but if you make this one free(to spread your name) and develop a second app that stands out from the rest of the apps out there, you might make more money.

I'm not trying to leave a sour taste with anyone, I'm just trying to spread some wisdom.

There are too many crap apps out there for 99 cents, and this one just lumps itself into that pile.

I agree that the only thing that is going to make this app stand out and seem worth 99 cents is if it has a really nicely designed/stylized interface.

The first thing I would change is the white to gray border gradient around the final price label. It gives it a weird bending illusion that is rough on the eyes.

So for those who feel the interface need work, what do you suggest?

I wanted to keep the final button in the middle just because it feel awkward to have the button at the bottom, seems like a lot of stress on the thumbs (I hate the fact the camera app has that tiny button on the bottom to take the pic).

I am also saddened by the rudeness shown to you.

Let me think.

Tip Calculator: Take $$ X Tip% (And then maybe Divide by # of people.)

This App: (Take $$ X Sales%) X Sales Tax

Seems like they are about the same.

And I have a Tip Calculator on my phone.

The point of my drivel is this app is not that far fetched.

Here is my advice:

1) Put a Label for the percentage wheel.

2) Move the Big Button to the bottom, OR, move the part where you enter the price and sales percentage below the big button.

3) Perhaps, in a smaller font, below the amount of the actual cost, put something like "You saved $XXX by buying this on sale."

It might seem awkward, but if you think about, a button that says "Final Price" should be the final thing on the bottom!

And like someone above me said, because the core of the app is basic, it needs to be stylized to really grab people's attention. Ask yourself, why should someone buy this over a free solution or another 99 cent app? That is where you should start and think of convenient things to add to the app that make it useful.

Maybe allowing people to create lists that they can add items to as they are shopping might add some functionality.

And while you are add it, why don't you make it have tip functionality? Use the formula someone above said. This would allow the app to serve two purposes, which could be another reason for someone to pick this up over another app!

lol @ people making fun of the guy

Leave him alone. Are you jealous that you don't have the programming skills to write the app?

To the app creator, good for you, welcome to the world of iPhone App Programming. I wish you the best of luck, and I hope you make lots of $$$!

:)

Of course I am jealous! :p

I was just trying to help a little :) But I should say congrats too!

BINGO.

Guys, to those of you with real suggestions, i thank you.

The reason i didnt put the button at the bottom is when the input fields are activated and the keypad comes up the selection wheel would still be partly visible and it didnt look right. Perhaps if i could make the picker view skinnier i could move it to the middle, but i dont know how to make customer widths and heights for the picker yet. These are all good ideas that i have read and i will make some changes and release an update.

To those of you who already have apps out there on the app store, how do you advertise them?

Here is project that would probably justify you raising the price:

Instead of having to manually enter in the Sales Tax, have it use GPS to find out what the sales tax is where I am at. :D

Keep in mind, I am not sure if this is doable because I am not a developer.

yeah thats what i originally thought and i was trying to find a database that held state tax info for all states and i couldnt find anything. but yeah that was my initial thought!

Its real funny how alot of people are having a hard time justifiing my $.99 price when an app like Moron Test (also $.99) is number 2 on top apps!

yep, first thing i thought was.."aren't there millions of tip calculators at the same price?" -- grats on your app. :)
