1st congrats not I couldn't do it so congrats!

just a thing to think about how about if when you updated it you could just select the state you are in say me I'm in Michigan 6% I know this so it's not hard to know if I spend $100 that $106 but if I go California 7.25% or Ohio 5.25% then this app would indeed handy for somebody that travels build in a auto location now you are rocking! here is a list of all the state sales tax! http://www.taxadmin.org/FTA/rate/sales.html this I think would make the app allot more useful! ;) angain congrats there have been allot worse apps on the apple store you could have done another fart app! :p

Brian didn't see you post till after I wrote this! lol!

Omegaphil, you are absolutely right. Sometimes you have to support the little guy. with all these multi million dollar corporations running around vying for your cash sometimes its good to support the common worker. Thanks for clarifying this to us. I will be purchasing your app.

Thank you to those who support me.

Some of you are hell bent on putting down an new developer in his infancy. I don't work for a software firm, or a big name company who is devleoping for the app store, I am a husband and a father with a regular job. I've seen alot of people become successful by putting an app out there that people like and find a need for. Some of you may not find it necessary because, yes, all math can be done in ones head. However, through my years of owning palm's and handspring's and Nokia's and now the iPhone, I have finally been able to make an app that I myself find useful. Some of us might not care about sale prices, but some do. And when you are out and you see something on sale its nice to be able to plug some numbers in and get the real total. I think it serves a purpose so i wrote it. for some of you it may only take you 15 minutes to write but I am not a software developer so it took more time for me to write it. Some of you are just plain nasty...quick to put down someone else's work. There alot of companies in the world that offer similar products for different prices. Its called selection and we have the right to choose. Look at AT&T, Spring, T-Mobile & Verizon. Or USPS, FedEx & UPS. This list goes on and on. But what each company has a right to do, is offer their service and let the public choose. I had hoped this experience would have been warm in joining a community i have long followed and always aspired to be part of. I didn't expect to be slammed like crazy for taking my ideas and turning them into something. To those who support I thank you, to those who do not please move along.

I don't why I feel i have to justify why my app exists, BUT I am taking into consideration all the feedback and suggestions and I am going to making periodical updates to improve my app. This is something I can say ALOT of those freebie App developers don't do. BUT YOU HAVE TO START SOMEWHERE.

omegaphil6: a lot of people behave like they know-it-all, and defend their crass nature by claiming they are only being "realistic" with you, and offering you "real world" advice. Further, the anonymity of the internet emboldens these negativists; in person, they're probably awkward and inept. If not, they're probably the brutes at the bar who act like they were put on the face of this earth to dominate everybody. Most of these undesirables self-aggrandize themselves. They're everywhere: for example, snob food critics who couldn't boil an egg if their lives depended upon it.

I say keep up the good work, and keep in mind that good people always support honest guys who try. Not all of them will buy your app, but you can count on them to give you feedback and support without sounding like cynics from hell. Hey, TUAW has covered your app, and there is already a lively discussion there. Best of luck, and keep coding.

I just purchased this app. It's useful, and saves time. Even if free alternatives exist, I chose to support this app and this developer. If for any other reason, I like the fact he communicates with us here, and is considering our suggestions.

It's my dollar, spent well. :)

Looks like an interesting app and good job on your first one in the store. I am, I hope, finishing up my first application today. Unfortunately mine is just a proof of concept application to show our clients who, we hope, will fund our future development.

Any application, regardless of how complicated it is, takes time and energy to get started. For those who are familiar with MS programming, moving over to Objective-C is a big task and takes a lot of work. Thus the first few people who posted about how "easy" the app is, appear quite short sighted.

As for this application, another feature you could add would be to have it use the location of the iPhone to lookup (from a built in table maybe) the local sales tax automatically. That way, people don't need to know how much the sales tax is in the area -- this would be a big benefit to those who travel or, live along borders of states.

Nice app, and good job.

Version 1.2 is finally live and available for purchase.

Based on customer feedback, the following updates have been made:

-Added a label to the Percentage wheel
-Added zero percent to the percentage wheel
-Moved the "FinalPrice" button above all user input fields
-Adjusted the location of the "info" button for better responsiveness
-Made certain fonts bigger

Check out! I'm not a huge software devloper. I am just a father trying to make enough for a down payment on a new home for me family. Please support!

Ya know what would be a nice addition?

REVERSE calculation.

Say you have a $10 off $30 coupon. I get these from OfficeMax, etc.

Enter items you're interested in, and their prices.

You could figure out the optimal set of items to get to $30 without exceeding it by much.

Good luck with your app. I think its a pretty good idea and I don't know why people were so quick to put it down. Anyway I want to get into app development, probably should get a mac first :D.

People love to hide behind the interwebz, I'm sure they only say these crude things because of it. I'm also learning the iphone SDK and I know it has a learning curve. Those people probably are not developers nor know anything about it. Don't let them get you down!

Cool app man!

very fun making apps right? No worries, application making is probably one of the most stressful jobs since your creating apps for consumers, and as we all know, consumers can be a pain. Just keep up the great job and I am sure you will make a successful app soon. It took me 6 windows applications until I made a successful app (200 bucks in 2 weeks :) )

The problem with this app, is most geeks understand math, and adding the percentage to an item is just a calculator app away (the one that comes with the phone) and the tip app that is oh so popular is already HUGE competition.

Recomendations - Give it more beauty and elegance. Give it more functionality if someone is going to have to pay.

Wow seriously, its my first app... I really didn't expect to be met with such rudeness. I wrote the app and i posted it on here... There are thousands of tip calculators out there and people love them. I have always wanted one that would calculate sale percentage and tax, so i set my sights to write one.

Maybe someone else wants the same thing, so here it is. For those of you who do not want it, please move along...

Good Deal now I can explain to my wife while we are shopping that she is saving us tons of $ by buying all the cloths on the sale rack...LOL

How did you write this, I wanted to write APPS but just did not know how to get started and I have a few cool things in my head.

Good Job my wife loves it
