It will work. However, it's 5400rpm drive so if I was you, I would get a faster HD since it's the boot drive. For example WD Caviar Blue or Black or if you want 2TB, then Hitachi's 7200rpm 2TB drive (same as in current iMacs).

Don't worry, it will work fine, it just isn't as fast as some drives. However, it's not slow and I'm sure you'll be fine with it.
 
The hard drive on my iMac (Aluminium 24" Core 2 Duo 2.8GHz) went a few months ago so I was booting Mac OSX from an external firewire drive. This was only a temporary solution until I had the time to buy and fit a new internal drive. I did this last week and it wasn't as difficult as I thought it was going to be. There are some good videos on YouTube/Vimeo which show exactly how it's done.
 
I just replaced the Harddrive! It works totally fine now! Its silent and good! It was quite dusty there! 2 years old and never ben opened xD
