Is something like this decumented? I can still see everything on the screen, it's just extremely tinted green, and it's like that since the moment it boots up, even the first grey startup screen is green. I've tried calibrating and it doesn't help at all.

My iMac's monitor just suddenly turned bright green!

The same happened to me ages ago (and I took a screenshot), but its never happened again. I restarted and it was all fine. If you look closely, the whole screen isnt green, some of the menubar is normal.
I seem to remember that when it happened, the green kinda 'swiped' from top to bottom.

It used to be that when your screen turned green or purple like that it meant that the cable connecting your monitor was faulty. As the screen is internal this is unlikely although still possible, however the backlight failing is the more likely cause.
Have you tried restarting? Also it is very unlikely, but have you tried going to display system preference pane and then going to color? I've never had my MacBook Pro's screen go that green before, but I have had it get set to a different display profile.
Yup... backlight. Your local Apple store ( hopefully it isn't 2 hours away... by plane)should be able to assist you
i dont understand how this can be a backlight problem when part of the menubar and bottom strip is ok with such clear edges (see original pic). surely a backlight problem would have more of a haze 
?

Totally off topic, but no. Laptops, yes. Definitely.
Desktops, nahhh... they hardly ever fail on you, why pay the extra for something that you'll most likely never need.
And I say it's the cable connecting the monitor to the graphics card. How would a faulty backlight change the hue of the monitor?
This can't be a backlight issue as the backlight is simply a lamp which shines light through the LCD panel in order for you to see the LCD clearly enough, it doesn't change colour to green suddenly!
The more likely explanation is either there is a connection issue between the graphics card and the display, or a fault with the graphics card itself.
The fact that in the screenshot above where most of the screen is green except for a small portion at the bottom, I would have to say that it's likely a graphics card problem as the OS X screen-capture utility wouldn't capture the screen as green unless the graphics card was generating it before it left for the display.
Either way, you'll need to speak to Applecare to get it fixed.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I have to agree with NATO. If you can take a screenshot of it then it is likely not a fault with the screen or any connection to it. This means that it has been generated by the computer before being sent to the screen. This is similar with inverting your screen; it is not possible to take a picture when the colours of your screen have been inverted because the card is changing the colours rather than the computer itself.
Could be a virus (yes, they do sometimes happen), or more likely a hardware problem in the machine.
Get it sorted at an Apple retailer, don't even think about opening up that beautiful box because once you do, you probably won't be able to fix it and any waranty will be void.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. How could a screen capture show the green if it was a fault with the monitor?
Screen captures only show the data being sent out by the computer.
If the computer is fine but the monitor is faulty, then only a photo taken with your camera or mobile phone would show it.

Do you have any warranty left? I sure hope you do. This is a hardware problem -- don't waste your time trying to fix it; call Apple and have it sent in.
