The good side of the grass.
Apple giving stuff this big away? To multiple customers... There must be a much larger problem w. the HDD supply than Apple is letting on.

Anyway, good for you!! Hope you're as pleased with yours as I am mine.:)

Well, yeah. It certainly would appear to be. Why would Apple be giving away a $500 upgrade if there weren't issues? They've been delayed now for going on a month and no one has seen a HDD rev. 2 yet let alone receive one. It's now the end of Nov. and shipping is still listed as 2-3 weeks for units that were supposed to be in stores beginning of Nov.

When did you order your Rev B MBA? Do you think if I ordered an HDD version now I might be entitled to the same upgrade later? That'd be pretty sweet...

I just really hope this gets resolved soon. I WANT MY MBA! Just rip open all the iPod Classics and take the HDDs, no one is buying them anyways!

How many of you think that Apple would give FREE SSDs for the people who start ordering today? :D

I think I missed the boat for that surprise because I ordered two days ago. On my order slip, it's coming in like 4-5 weeks.
SSD would be amazing if I got upgraded as well. :D
I shall continue to check my order.

I agree. I think they couldn't meet the expected date to release the hdd so the people who have been waiting for a few weeks now will just get ssd while people who ordered the hdd this week or only last week will have to wait the 3-4 weeks and hopefully it will be out to ship. If not, expect ssd for you too!

IT ARRIVED!

Woke up to an unexpected treat this morning! They said it would be here around Friday. So they did give me the 128ssd after all and yes I have four finger swipe. Man the ssd is fast, I ran it against my MBA hdd and it blew it out of the water. I don't think I will ever go back to hdd. I did some checks, flawless design, no scratches, wobbly feet, everything is PERFECT!

I'm wonder what is going on with the HDD themselves. Does Apple have a supply problem? It's the same HDD that is in the iPod Classic so I would think that they would have plenty of them available for the Macbook Air.

I called Apple this morning because I was curious. I was told there is only one model of MacBook Airs and that was one with a SSD. In protest I asked the champion rep to go online and check out the site. When he did that, he replied with "that is the model that was released back in the beginning of 2008". REALLY NOW?

I hung up and called back. Another conversation another answer. "We are currently only offering the MB Airs with SSD drives. However, you are free to order our 80 gb hard drive model currently selling for $1799."

Frustrated I decided to inquire about the delay and was told there was no delay, they have stock of SSD models and if I want one they will be happy to place my order and provide free overnight shipping since I'm leaving town on Monday.

Some sad news, I think I have been plagued with the thin horizontal line issue. Although I should not complain about anything since they gave me ssd for free, it is kind of a nuisance. Hopefully it will be resolved in an upcoming software update. I hope it isn't a hardware issue.

Unless Apple is planning to phase out the HDD model this really doesn't make any sense.

Now I agree that Apple employees are sometimes a bit dumb. As I said in another thread when I bought my Air they actually asked me what size SSD I wanted.

That is just it. I called the Southpoint Mall store yesterday and the guy was trying to tell me there is only one model. I am almost wondering if they were told this is it for now. However, I believe watching a keynote should be madatory after all this.

I questioned the guy on knowing the product line, he snapped back with "I know more than you could ever know." I gave in and said probably so, but this was too weird that he'd tell me there was one MB Air on the market and it's $2499.

Obviously there aren't THAT many Apple employees simply being misinformed. It's probably just some protocol that they have to follow to prevent masses of people from asking questions.

After hearing the story of another thread where a customer was upgraded for
free as they could fulfill his original order, I decided to see if I could wiggle
my way a similar offering by ringing up apple directly (online store sweden)

I spoke to the lady on the phone and explained I had been checking daily
since they were announced, but not committing to order one as I wanted to get it asap so I waiting to see if their online store dates or local store would arrive first and buy which ever was quicker.

She assured me that the HD model was is in stock at their central hub in
holland and that I just needed to order one and would have it in 3 days.

I was super excited, yet somewhat skeptical also and asked to double check,
triple check etc .... after a while she started to get a little annoyed with me
for asking her to make sure as I had my credit card ready to pass over the
details for an order.

And then she said no.
it wasnt in stock and there were absolutely NO HD MBA available at present.
Furthermore she had no idea when they may arrive as even the official
online apple store has no set date for the release of these.

So after a lot of ear time on the phone with this customer rep, i gave up.
she was nice and everything and at no time did I even try to execute the
plan of trying to scrounge a free upgrade since she didnt sound like she was
"all there", i gave up.

Nice lady but not the sharpest knife in the draw.

so the moral of this story .... even calling apples online store direct where they can see all there virtual stock from around the world and they still can be thick as 2 short Planck's.

new MBA HD will be available ..... when apple knows (which they dont)
