I'm looking at the same configuration in green. My base M1 Mini is due to be replaced after the holidays, and I'm seriously considering going back to iMac (I had two previously) for the uncluttered aesthetic.

Your setup is great. Enjoy your new iMac!

I have been using the Silver M1 24" 8/512 for 3 years in my home office, just got a 14" base Mbpr 16/1TB for use around the house and back verandah. Wanted the nano.
Still trialing it have to 8th Jan.
Not sure about black being black on the iMac lol

I had the MBA connected to the iMac to use it as 2 screens etc; been on it all morning working and it's spot on
I'm really wondering if I could use an M1 iMac as a screen for my MBA for years in this way. I wonder how long and how effectively it'll be supported.

I was very tempted with the 16" MBP in all honesty, more so with Amazon's pay in 5; but decided that I'd prefer an iMac for the screen size as I use my office as my den too (so like to watch my Youtube channels in here and films that the wife's not interested in watching etc)

I've got my hifi set up in my office as well as a nearly 80 year old art deco chair that's beyond comfy ;)

Cheers

I'm really glad I went for it; my desk feels much tidier now

I've had a few iMacs before too (x2 21.5" and x2 27") - but always ended up with the 1TB FusionDrive

And then a few Mac Mini's too (2012 i&, 2018 Mini and then the M1 Mac Mini and M2 Pro which I didn't have for too long as it never got used)

Yeah I’m not sold on the MacBook, going to return it and stick to my 11” M4 iPad Pro for on the go use.
Might upgrade my iMac to what you got.

The thing for me is that I already have an M1 MBA and it does all I need; so the iMac real estate screen is what I really wanted (and what I've got) ;)

I'd highly recommend one

that's my preferred combo to

iPad pro + iMac

currently an M1 but will probably upgrade to M4 in January. This time with more storage and more Memory
I'm doubting between an Orange one and a Silver one

Wait, what ?
You used the MBA as a secondary display for the iMac, or you used the iMac as a secondary display for the MBA ?
I thought Apple removed the ability to use the iMac as a secondary display when they introduced Apple Silicon.

1) How did you do that ?
2) Do you have access to the webcam and speakers of the iMac ?
3) Do you have access to keyboard controls to control the luminosity and sound volume ?

I'd be tempted to buy an old M1 iMac and plug my Mac Mini M2 Pro into it if I could >_>

MBA > M4 iMac - just went into settings, display on my MBA and added the iMac - webcam etc is on the MBA still, but use the iMac screen for Word, PDF & Excel docs etc

Can you use a M1 24” as a second monitor with a new M4 24”?
I wish! The best you could do is boot them both up separately (on the same Apple ID) and use that Continuity Keyboard feature to control both with one keyboard and mouse. You wouldn't be able to drag windows between them, but it would be a kind of workaround, which is what this guy is doing 👇

ok that could work, just need one keyboard and trackpad don't use a mouse, both would be on 24/7.
The M1 would just be for video mainly, M4 for everything else.
Re sale doesn't seem too good on the M1 at 3 years old, may as well use it too.
Gives more chargers too.

I've used this Continuity Keyboard feature a little at work, but I have also found it not to work super consistently. Maybe someone else who uses it can chime in here...

When you say 'drag windows' what do you mean?

I was able to drag Word/Excel/Adobe onto the iMac from my MBA, so I could view them on the larger screen to edit etc

Anyone like to comment on going from a 3 year old M1 8/512 to a M4 24/512?
Big diff or not worth it?
Nothing wrong with my M1.

You mean you copied the files from one machine to the other?

No; I mean I dragged the application from my M1 MBA onto the M4 iMac screen (ie dual screen) like I did when I had my M1 Mac Mini and BenQ monitor and hooked up my M1 MBA to the monitor also; and used that as a 2nd screen

Received this today and very happy

Wanted to declutter my desk and move away from my Mac Mini and monitor etc; more so as I'm getting a new 15" M3 MBA for work too, that should land next week

Really impressed with the build quality and styling; it looks superb in silver too. Very clean

Just migrating it from my Mac Mini now
