My new macbook pro setup

ok, finally I saved enough money to get a macbook pro!! I have pretty much decided on all of the rest of the peices to my setup and will be ordering later but wanted to hear others opinons, ok so:
(keep in mind I'm on a budget)

Laptop: SR 2.2 Macbook pro

Speakers: Logitech z-4

External Monitor: Dell E228WFP

Keyboard and Mouse: Apple Bluetooth Keyboard and "Mighty Mouse"

External Hard drive: 250GB Western Digital Mybook Premium

Any Comments or other ideas for products would be great! :apple::apple::apple:

I don't really understand why you'd get a laptop with external keyboard, mouse, speakers, monitor, hard drive.. seems kind of like a desktop, only you can remove the actual computer and use it elsewhere without worrying over the peripherals, as they are built in.

Anyway, seems like a good setup if that's what you're after.

I'm going with the low-end MacBook Pro with a 750 GB WD MyBook Pro disk connected to an AirPort Extreme. AirPort Express for the speakers. I'm more after the portability than you are, it seems =)

Well, actually, I will be "undocking" this every day to go to school, the reason is that I live at two houses, so if I have an external setup at both houses, I will have two computers for the price of one!!! sort of:p
 
very nice,

but I would just get an external FW enclosure (~ $50) and a 500 GB HD to put in it instead of the WD external. You'll save money which you can use to get a stand for the MBP to raise it to the height of the dell monitor and to put the keyboard and mouse under.

IMHO, I think you should get a larger external like Siouxsie has. I'm assuming you will be updgrading to Leopard when released and you'll want/need a larger external when using TimeMachine...my 2 cents.

Sound like a nice set-up!

I would add a Laptop stand for your desktop arrangement:

and a lap protector (help it run cooler on your lap or on a surface):

This just caught my eye: I am looking for a mouse to complete my MBP setup - since switching to Apple I somehow started worrying about the acctual design of stuff... :p

I heard mixed reports about the Mighty Mouse which I am sure you are aware of. How come you are still considering the Mighty Mouse? And are there any alternatives "designewise"?

I choose it for a few reasons

One was because its bluetooth, so you don't have to tie up a usb port (although I know a lot of mouses are). Two, I like the pressure sides and the scroll wheel (I hope they work). Also the design goes with everything else that I have so I just figured I'd get it.

All in all, you could probably find a better mouse for cheaper, but I just decided to stick with apple
 
mighty mouse is money! the scroll ball is sweet... don't get why people don't like these things... mine has worked flawlessly since day one.
 
the mighty mouse takes some getting use to. The wheel is great. The side buttons are in a weird place to press and you have to click with one finger instead of resting both on the mouse and pushing one down when you click...which is more comfortable personally. There are bluetooth mice that are not the mighty mouse. Check newegg..

I use Fan Control and prefer it. SMC Fan you have to adjust the fan speed yourself, where as I just specify a temperature for Fan Control and it adjusts the RPM in association with the temperatures on the graph.

Very easy to use and much better than SMC Fan in the sense that it is automatic.
 
Why get the mighty mouse when you can get the Razer Pro o_O , its such a beautiful thing. love razer! btw its white=)
 
I have finally gotten everything except for the monitor and the laptop (coming tuesday:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D). Thanks for all of your suggestions, I bought a griffin elevator like someone said, thanks for the idea!

I'll post pics when everythings said and done.

are there any external enclosures that are firewire 800?? because a mybook would be

Exactly... you just answered your own question. That's the perfect setup for a student on the go that needs to good computing power. Make it feel like a desktop when need be, yet, portable...

i think by the money of the Mighty mouse..which got MANY reports about issues in the right click and the scrool ball...i suggest getting a great logitech mouse..trust me they are always better...something like the MX or VX revolution..they have even more buttons than those 2 side hard to press buttons in the MM...
 
thanks guys, I thought that it was a good idea considering I need it for the road and at two houses, and it acts just like a desktop.
 
Had my Mighty Mouse since release, scroll wheel is still beautiful, right click still works perfectly.

I use this mouse for about 4 to 8+ hours a day, almost every day.
