It's here and its amazing, I will take pictures once I stop playing with it, I love it!:D:apple::D:apple::D:apple:

I guess we won't hear from you for about a week while you're on your honeymoon. LOL...that's what happened to me when my baby first arrived. And surprisingly, after a month of being together, it seems the love affair is still going strong...;)

lol

we have like the same setup

I don't really understand why you'd get a laptop with external keyboard, mouse, speakers, monitor, hard drive.. seems kind of like a desktop, only you can remove the actual computer and use it elsewhere without worrying over the peripherals, as they are built in.

Anyway, seems like a good setup if that's what you're after.

I'm going with the low-end MacBook Pro with a 750 GB WD MyBook Pro disk connected to an AirPort Extreme. AirPort Express for the speakers. I'm more after the portability than you are, it seems =)

i am using compex wireless router, even its using 802.11g and USB2.0. When i transfer files from the HDD connected to the router to my mac, the highest is only 8Mbps but 802.11g is suppose to work around 20Mbps ~ 30Mbps in practice. I check the specs of the router and i was told by the technician that speed limitation is due to the processing power of the router which is inferior when compared to a usual Mac/PC. I wonder how good is it on Airport Extreme?

Oyen Digital - Professional Grade HD Enclosures

are there any external enclosures that are firewire 800?? because a mybook would be

Yup, you just won't find them at newegg and the like.

I wouldn't use that. It's old and it runs a background proccess with root privileges.

I recommend this one - very professional app and a great developer behind it.

smcFanControl 2.1 : http://www.eidac.de/
I use Fan Control and prefer it. SMC Fan you have to adjust the fan speed yourself, where as I just specify a temperature for Fan Control and it adjusts the RPM in association with the temperatures on the graph.

Very easy to use and much better than SMC Fan in the sense that it is automatic.

I'm really interested in the temperature-dependent RPM capability of Fan Control -- I'd much rather tinker with a proper graph initially than constantly have to manually adjust the RPM setting. Bummer it requires root though. Anyone know if the smcfanControl dev team has temp-dependent capability on their to-do list?

Just got a MBP myself, first time using a Mac every. I'm still very much preferring Vector Linux (Slackware derivative), but OSX is growing on me -- which is good as initially I felt as if I had made a mistake. Part of the inital frustration was figuring how to setup the MBP to run OSX, WinXP, Vista, and Linux natively when you're limited to just four primary MBR partitions. Think I got the theory figured out now (GPT, OSX, WinXP, & Vista in MBR, Linux in GPT only. Not a panacea -- no universal storage partition).

Biggest qualm is easily Disk Utility. Grr it's annoying. I just need to endure until the Linux alternatives support EFI. The dynamic nature of shortcut keystrokes because of the crazy application bar thingy is any annoyance, but that's something I can tweak I would assume.

Software Must-Haves:
Got VMWareFusion, smcFanControl, SuperDuper! Free, Firefox with Adblock. Any other "must-haves" I'm missing? A proper image editing tool like Photofiltre would be nice. I'm actually booting WinOS just to use Photofiltre, I like it that much.

sorry for the long post...
