I have a Seagate external 250GB hard drive which I imagine is very close to the WD
Anyway, this drive is a power hog and will not run without the special two ended USB cable that it comes with on my Macbook pro.
HOWEVER, it will run fine with a single cable on the AIR.
Which suggests that the AIR's USB port has a bit more juice than most notebooks as was speculated at first because of the power requirements of the Air's superdrive and then was later discounted as it says in the profiler that it's a standard 500ma USB port.
I would bet that your WD will run fine without a hub.
Could be wrong though.
