My Note 4 display is jealous of the super bright 6 Plus display

So I had a chance to test run the Note 4 for a few days, and my brother had borrowed my Plus, and what can I say, the Note 4 display surely is absolutely great and beautiful, love the darkish omnience from the black/blueish Note 4 I got with the dark blue front and black leather back, it looks nice, but I do miss the brightness and whiter whites on the Plus, I look over at my brother playing with the Plus and it just makes me appreciate the Plus that much more, screen glows so bright and beautiful and the viewing angles are better on the Plus then the Note 4. I like alot how the blueish part on the front of the display that surrounds the screen glimmers in a way, it looks really nice, i do also love the black pebble stone kinda look from the Plus /6 when they have a black front glass display, looks like the screen swallows up the whole device in a way since the edges morph out and slope out on the Plus/6

One thing I do love about OLED panels though is the blacks, dam they are fantastic... But I still prefer the Plus display, i like the more accurate color accuracy that the Plus brings and the brighter display and brighter whites, (yeah I know the Note 4 has screen modes you can change and edit and when the Note 4 is in "basic Mode" in screen mode settings, it is claimed by DisplayMate to be the best smartphone display ever) But then what is the point of buying a phone with OLED technology in it if your gonna basically take away the OLED factor of the device and go for absolute color accuracy and not stay with the "wow factor" people love when it comes to OLED panels because of its vividness and super saturated colors, i dont want to have to keep micromanaging screen modes to the content that I am watching/looking at, its ridiculous (for the record the Screen modes only cover Samsung applications if you want it to adapt automatically, otherwise you have to manually change the screen mode basically everytime depending on what you want color accuracy/strong vivid saturation etc)


so yeah guys, this is what I have to say about the hands on experience with the Note 4 purely solely on displays, nothing else

Man that other thread bothered you. Why does going into basic remove the benefits of OLED? You can still get to the extremely dim screen brightness level, you still get the amazing viewing angles, you still get the perfect blacks. How is that removing the benefits?

DisplayMate also said the Note 4 has the best OVERALL display they've every tested in a smartphone.

I'm an iOS guy through and through, and I love my 6+ and wouldn't trade it for a Note 4 or anything.

But as an impartial, relatively scientific reviewer, DisplayMate's conclusion that the Note 4 has the best smartphone display on the market is pretty solid.

Now that doesn't mean subjectively its the best. People have different preferences.

And really....we're splitting hairs. The 6+ has the best LCD display on the market (according to DisplayMate) so you're really choosing between the two best.

No really a wrong choice hardware wise. In the end, it's all about software and which OS you prefer. Why people get caught up in flagship hardware/specs is beyond me.

Reflectancy is very close, iPhone 6 and 6 plus score a 4.6 percent for ambient light reflections and a 6 percent on mirror reflections, the note 4 scores 4.8 percent on ambient light reflections and a 6.6 percent on mirror reflections. I very much doubt that's noticeable.

Further as far as brightness is concerned on auto the note 4 can achieve a level of 750 cd/m2 the 6 plus on max brightness (auto as well and this is the highest point) achieves a brightness level of 566 cd/m2.

Display mate gave the note 4 an A+ in screen visibility in high ambient light on auto brightness and the iphone an A.

You're also wrong on the white levels as well. The note 4 in basic mode achieves a color temperature of 6,564 K, 6500 K is the ideal point for content calibrated to the SRGB standard (pretty much most everything, tv etc.) the iPhone 6 sits at 7,348 K meaning slightly bluish tinge.

My son has the Note 4. He swore never to return to iOS devices. I am very appreciative of the 6+ screen. We both bought our 5s together. He complained of nothing but problems. I did not. We both are pleased with our current, respective phablets. What a country! I have since cut him out of my will...

Displatemate measured a 45% decrease in portrait brightness and a whopping 59% decrease in landscape brightness at 30 degree angle.

Nah, don't worry about letting facts make your point (the first part of your post), you definitely needed to throw in that last idiotic, douchey comment (second part of your response).

LCD tech still has its strengths (which are talked about in the DisplayMate 6+ review). And not all LCDs are created equal (again, as talked about in the DisplayMate review). For instance, it still is more power efficient than OLED. And for all the people who cry about battery life, I'd say that's pretty important.

I can use it pretty good one handed with my thumb on my right hand. Works 99% of the time. Now on my left hand, swiping my thumb works 50% of the time. I hope Samsung implements touch instead of swiping, on later Galaxy phone.

I don't use fingerprint since the law can force you to hand over your fingerprint while they can't with password.

With that said the trick to increasing the success rate of the swipe fingerprint reader is to register the same finger multiple times first vertically then at an angle. The advantage of the swipe sensor is you don't leave a liftable fingerprint like the Finger ID.

Fingerprint (biometric) wasn't meant to be used alone but rather as one part of three that identifies who you are (biometric), what you know (password) and what you have with you (token).

Agreed....i have had the IP6 and the N4 and TouchID works like a charm......but thats about it.....Screen...battery life most everything else go to the N4.

OLED is hard to beat.

I remember I was driving at night and next to me was somebody with a Nokia Lumia 800 (has OLED), and boy, when the screen was black there was nothing to see. The iPhone black at night is dark grey at best.

Since that was 2 years ago I wonder what happened to the innovating spirit of Apple. No OLED yet, late with LTE, finally a mediocre NFC (basically unusable for most), no wireless charging.

I thought that was a good balanced personal opinion myself. OLED certainly as great blacks but I remember reading somewhere once they don't last as long as LCD screens, then again I'm sure they'll last the 3 years most people will keep a device for?
I usually prefer IPS LCD myself but I saw a Note 4 in a shop the other day and have to admit, I was stunned by it's display. I'm yet to see a 6 Plus in person though.

I'm still looking at that Nexus 6, but don't know if I can handle a 6" screen device... hmmm

Thread fail note 4 gets brighter then 6 plus and also has closer white balance (almost perfect) so not sure what the op is talking about
