So what does have to do with the release of the 5 instead of a 4S?

Sigh...
Like I said, There's proof around that Apple was working on iPhone 5 alongside iPhone 4S. When they couldn't finish the 5, instead of releasing it after Steve's passing and getting it buried in news of his death, they opted to release a more complete and finished but lesser iPhone 4S before he went to avoid such a disaster.

I can't wait until March/April.... That will tell us everything on what to expect at WWDC. If Apple holds a media event in March/April previewing iOS 6, there is a strong possibility of the next iPhone being unveiled at WWDC. If there is no such event, the chances of the next iPhone being at WWDC is pretty much close to zero and iOS 6 will be previewed at WWDC and the next iPhone will be a fall release.

So the next two months is critical of telling us what could be Apple's plans.

What proof? Cases fitting this iPhone 5? The lone icon in what was it..... iPhoto displaying a bigger iPhone?

There was more proof of the 4S being the next iPhone. Last January before the Verizon iPhone came out, there was the steel frame that resembled the 4, but was different by adding another break in the antenna design. A lot of people speculated that was the Verizon iPhone 4, but it had a SIM card slot in it. Then more parts like the LCD and camera began to leak out. The LCD was the same 3.5" size as the rest of the iPhones. All of the leaked parts was pointing towards the 4S. None pointed to this iPhone 5. It is more believable that the thing that delayed the iPhone 4S was not issues with the iPhone 5, but iOS 5 taking longer to finish( Siri....).

And where is said proof? Like above poster said, the cases aren't proof at all.
