If I get one, it would be the 42mm, but for $100 more? Ugh.

Someone had suggested $349 for the 38 and $379 for the 42. That's a difference I can get behind.

I get the iPhones are $100 apart in price, but the 6+ had optical stabilization, a bigger battery, and a screen that was 0.8" bigger with a far greater pixel density. A much easier sell on why it's $100 more. If a 4mm screen bump is worth $100 when all the internals are identical, god help us all.

I was debating putting $50 as the price difference, but if we are talking about a small version and large version of any product, like iPad Mini vs iPad Air, it could really be a $100 difference.

Trust me I would love the $50 difference considering I want a Space Gray Sport ;)

Also, only one Edition model is available in both 38mm and 42mm, and none of the Edition models will be aesthetically compatible with the straps from the other collections.

It is strange that we seem to be hovering between Tech and Fashion here.

The Naysayers tend to poo poo the watch because of technical reasons.

The people very positive about the watch keep pointing out, this is in error as Apple is not marketing this as tech, but rather as fashion.

In fact going ALL OUT to promote this as a fashion item above all else, and the tech just is what it is.

Ok, far enough, but then if Apple is pushing this as fashion and not tech, then there should not be any price difference for the sizes.

Price differences for sizes, are generally for tech.
Monitors, Tablets, Phones etc etc. It's technical specs are physically larger, hence it demands a higher price as you chose the larger model.

But that's not wearable and fashion, they generally are not sold in that manner, Cloths, Shoes, Hats, Even Rings tend to have "A Price" and you select the size that best fits you.

That's how fashion is sold. You don't punish someone with larger feet by charging more as there is more leather etc, in their shoe, or more fabric in their dress, and as I said even rings often you see the price and then you get the size that fits you.

So what is Apple selling with the Watch?
Tech or Fashion.

Or do you want it both ways? It's 100% aimed at fashion, but when it comes to pricing it's 100% sold as tech.

There is no reason on earth for there to be any price difference. Apple can sell both sizes exactly the same. It makes zero difference to them financially to do so.

For me, if they are different prices, then it will show Apple is still thinking in it's old tech way. If they price them the same, which actually I would like to see, then it will show they are really seeing this as a strong move forward as a fashion item.

Good Point. I think most people will be getting the Sport Edition, I have a scary feeling I'm too low for the standard Apple Watch.

I am absolutely fine with a 42mm Space Grey Sport with Black Band

I can't see the 42 costing more than the 38 in the Sport model, and maybe even the watch model. It makes the pricing overly complicated, and the different cost of material is negligible. Also, they run the risk of too many men buying the 38 for cost considerations alone.

I can see Apple charging different prices for the Edition model, where there is actually a significant difference in the amount of gold used.

This is a great point, actually. I hadn't thought about it from that perspective (the standard watch/shoe example is a great one). Hopefully that will be the direction they go.

If I can get one of the non sport 42mm watches for $500, I'll be tempted. I was talking myself into spending $400+ on a sport, but I'd be tempted to get the sapphire glass and ceramic back if it was only slightly more expensive.

Still, it's Apple. until 2014, 16GB of extra flash memory was a $100 upgrade. I don't put anything past them from a pricing perspective.

I still don't think there will be a difference in price for sizes. At the very least in regards to the Watch and Sport models.

I updated the Band options for the Apple Watch Edition, regardless of what it comes with, those are my estimates for if you wanted to buy those bands separately. I also think that the sport band will come stock with most models with the base price.

It only takes one look at the Apple's official site to find that the rose gold with the white sport band is available in both sizes. All other Edition models are available either in 38mm (bright red and rose gray bands, obviously intended for females) or 42mm (black sport and midnight blue bands).

Well before you start being rude, maybe make yourself a little clearer in future. You didn't mention straps / combos, you specifically stated 'model'.

I stand by my statement. Each "model" represents an out of the box combo. This is clear from Apple's website (i.e., "View all 10 models in the (Apple Watch Sport) collection," "View all 18 models in the (Apple Watch) collection," etc.).

If there's a price difference between 38mm and 42mm (and if Apple is smart, there won't be), I can't see it being more than $50. Anything more will likely turn people off.

I strongly doubt there will be a $100 difference between the 38mm and 42mm models. At least half that, if not less. The difference between the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus is $100, no way they would so the same for the Watch.

Well in the post above the one that I originally quoted you used the word 'combo'.

In the post that I quote you said 'edition model'. There's a clear difference.

And whether or not I'm right or wrong, there's still no reason to try and make someone feel stupid. Just a little tip for you.

I'm not sure where the confusion lies or why you're being defensive. A (case + strap) combo is exactly the same as a model and I was suggesting that some in the OP are unworkable. For example, there's no such thing as a 38mm Edition 18K gold case with a black fluoroelastomer (sport) band, as you can only get that in 42mm. Additionally, the Space Black SS Watch will likely not be available with a white/black fluroelastomer strap, as the only Space Black model is shown with the link bracelet.
