I'm not sure where the confusion lies or why you're being defensive. A (case + strap) combo is exactly the same as a model and I was suggesting that some in the OP are unworkable. For example, there's no such thing as a 38mm Edition 18K gold case with a black fluoroelastomer (sport) band, as you can only get that in 42mm. Additionally, the Space Black SS Watch will likely not be available with a white/black fluroelastomer strap, as the only Space Black model is shown with the link bracelet.

Yes, but of course you'll be able to buy a Stainless Steel sport strap and simply stick it on you're Space Black model.

Agreed. It just won't be an out of the box option as the OP is suggesting.

Although it would be better to get the Space Gray sport strap from the Apple Watch Sport collection instead as the Space Gray pin would go better with Space Black. The pin on the other sport straps is standard stainless steel and won't match.

Let's be honest, as of yet, we don't even know if the Watch will come assembled in one box.

Apple could package all bodies and all straps separately, but very nicely, and the strap box would be like a presentation box, so you unpacked both box's, slid in the straps and wore your watch.

It "could" be sold like that for ease of manufacture, packaging, and sales reasons.

Let's be realistic here. That's totally inconsistent with Apple's labeling them 10 Apple Watch Sport models, 18 Apple Watch models and 6 Apple Watch Edition models in the respective collections.

Well. There still is no physical reason why they have to be in the same physical box.

The box's could even link together, and they could indeed have "recommended" or collections in place.
I am just suggesting a method that could be done.

You buy a TV and a Stand, and they are sold together, but they can come in separate box's.

It's just a thought.

Think about it.

If they were packaged separate, even in some very nice, presentation type box manner, that perhaps even "snapped" together, how easy that would make it for the manufacturer.

No need to think, Oh, I wonder how many of Body A, we need to fit Strap Q onto, and how many of Body B we need to fit strap X onto.

If the stores had the very nice box's of bodies and straps separate, then the stores could basically "connect" the two together at time of sale.

No need to have to stock 50 sports with red straps, 50 sports with blue straps, 50 with green, 50 with yellow etc etc, and the same for the other models.

The shops just has the bodies, and the straps in separate very nice box's and combine whichever colour to body at time of sale.

It would seem rather silly to go to buy one, and they have to say, Oh sorry, we don't have any Sports with Green bands, only sports with blue bands.

Which will happen If they are pre packed at the factory.

Hence why I said this would be nicer for the customer and far easier for the shops and their stock management, and the manufacturer.

It's just an idea that would make things easier all round :)

Thanks for this excellent posting, and it gives me reason again to question the logistics of packaging.

Does anyone really think that every one of those combinations will be pre-packed, body and strap at the factory, and every store will have to stock XX amount of every pre-packed combination of "Official" Apple collection Body/Strap combo's?

I think anyone can picture in their mind just what a stock nightmare that would be.

I did suggest bodies and straps may be individually packaged (but a body not sold without a strap of course)

Then the factory and stores just has to package up, say, Stainless Steel Bodies, and also the many straps in separate box's and they only come together at point of sale, when the customer tells the staff what they want.

Don't you all feel this would make far more sense than to have say 300 actual watches in stock, but you have sold out of the one pre-packed combo more customers want?

With the price you say, we can deduce that the have sport band on every Watch et and if you want an other band you will have 2 bands.

But your price are speculation, so...

I take it you're suggesting that each collection will have the sport band as the base model and if you want a different band (e.g., link bracelet), you order that separately and end up with two bands. However, Apple's saying there are 10 models in the Apple Watch Sport collection, 18 models in the Apple Watch collection and 6 models in the Apple Watch Edition collection disputes that and indicates that all these models will be available as out of the box options. You'll most likely be able to purchase extra bands in addition to the out of the box band though.

Additionally, it doesn't make sense for the Space Black SS model to come stock with a sport band as the pin on that is standard (rather than Space Black) stainless steel. Moreover, the Edition models have color-coded crowns and matching rose or yellow gold accents in the straps so they will most certainly be purchased as out of the box units.
