Wow you canooks have it so easy billwise! I love how you can actually choose a data usage cap! I mean data caps would make users like me very happy only have to pay $650~ a year vs $900 on AT&Ts current plan. Data caps would also put some sense into bandwidth whores who don't hesistate to use wifi instead of 3G because they aren't afraid of going over there softcap.

See thats just it. You forgot all those screen shots do not include caller id, and some don't have voicemail either. Plus some of those prices also have "access fees" on top of them. So for the same features as ATT you have to pay more. And by same features I mean everything except 500mb of data....

Would rather enjoy the iPhone without all the extra features than nothing at all. Of course I can see myself burning thru 500mbs real easy but hey I never really had data on a phone before.

I guess so. Compared to europe we are all getting charged to much here in north america.

Yeah it seams pricing wise in Europe the iPhone is just another smartphone plan. IMO plans shouldn't be based on the phone at all...don't you think?

Absolutely here in canada we can use any in market plan if we choose to do so. Mind you either way the prices are far to high.

The major down side is the three year contracts. At first, everyone was concerned about having capped plans here in Canada but it turned out that most people never go over 500MB per month and only a few people go over a GB per month. Still, I'm grandfathered into 6GB of data for 30 CAD which can come in handy for tethering if my DSL goes down.

The data caps seem to have kept people's usage in check and encouraged people to use the carrier provided unlimited WiFi at coffee shops instead. All of this contributed to a network that is usually pretty fast when you need it most of the time even in larger cities like Vancouver.

I'm pretty happy with Fido. I just want some freedom of choice when I travel with a phone that "bought" and paid for. I bought a roaming minute pack before I went to Hawaii this summer but I would have rather been able to just pick up a pay as you go SIM from AT&T.

Someone that has a way with words should type up a form letter so we can start pounding Fido contact us with unlock requests.

I love my iphone, but I know the way around my own city. Most of my weekend vacations are the the US where I'd dearly love to be able to use my iphone with reasonable rates.

Letters can be can effective but what we really need is for people with a lot of followers to twitter/blog about it to get the word out.

If Americans could do the same with AT&T, it might increase the pressure on all carriers.

I did get a setback today from the CRTC. They processed my request as if I was complaining about Apple and that email only handles carriers and marked it as closed. So I looked at the form the government bureaucrat attached and I replied stating that I was complaining about Fido Solutions and their parent company Rogers Wireless with regard to their lack of an unlock policy. I stated my case that such a policy is unfair to consumers who paid the full price of the phone and the collusion between the major carriers to not offer unlocking services in general but to deny the ability to unlock a paid for phone from another carrier for someone wishing to switch.

You have to be careful in how you word your complaint or the person looking at it might misfile it in the wrong category and close the case. Be sure to talk mostly about the carrier rather than a specific phone.
